hadsignificantconcernsoverlandreclamation

thedisputedislands,thepossibilityofdeployingwarshipstotheareawerewidely
discussedinWashington.
Bydeployingitsshipstothedisputedarea,theU.S.showsthatChinasclaimsdonot
complywithinternationallaw,includingtheUnitedNationsLawoftheSea
(UNCLOS).

thatsomenationsviewfreedomoftheseasasupforgrabsaswellassomethingthat

Somenationsinthisregioncontinuetoimposesuperfluouswarningsandrestrictions
onfreedomoftheseasintheirexclusiveeconomiczonesandclaimterritorialwater

week.Thistrendisparticularlyegregiousincontestedwaters.
ThemovestodeploytheU.S.warshipsindicatethefailureofXiObamatalksduring
XisrecentvisittoWashington.Onthecontrary,notseeingprogresswiththe
diplomaticapproachtosettletheconflict,theWhiteHousehasoptedouttouseforce.
TherearegrowingconcernsthatiftheAmericansstepuptheirnavalpatrollinginthe
region,whichisclaimedbyBeijing,thetensionscouldreachtheleveloftheColdWar

themintoadebateoverthevalidityofsailinginsideoroutsidethe12NMzone.Thisis
chinasstrategyfortheworldtounwittinglyacceptaspuriousexclusionzonethatis
fabricatedoutofINTERNATIONALWATERS.
Theargumentaboutthis12NMzoneshouldn'tevenbeentertainedinthefirstplace.Any
navyofanynationwhatevertheintent,isentitledtosailthroughinternationalwaters!
