AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM DESCRIPTION - The air-conditioning

system shall comprise of water cooled screw chillers which will work in
conjunction with chilled water recirculation pump sets, condenser
water recirculation pump sets, induced draft cooling towers, new
generation double skin air handling units, chilled water and condenser
water piping, low velocity low pressure air distribution system,
associated electrical work etc.

The proposed 2 x 250 TR Water Cooled Screw chiller shall be delivering

the chilled water at required low temperature to the suction of
secondary pumps. These secondary pumps in turns distribute the
chilled water to various air handlers at different levels through
connected MS piping. These secondary pumps contain an
additional package, which consists of variable frequency drives,
manufacturer’s software and the logic controller and differential
pressure sensor cum transmitter. The chilled water coming from
secondary pumps enters at a low designed temperature inside
the cooling coil of air handler and gradually flows through various
tubes inside the cooling coil and travels completely across the
cooling coil. The hot air coming as return air from conditioned
zone is made to flow across the cooling coil, thereby allowing the
air to give away the laden moisture as condensate and allowing
the air to become dry and cool. This cool air is made to flow in
pressure by the blower of air handler and this cool air flows
through the metallic ducts made out of GI Sheet and comes out
in conditioned zone through diffuser or grilles, whatever
designed as per the requirement. Usually it is low velocity when
comes out of air handler. This exchange of heat in cooling coil
between the chilled water and hot air increase the chilled water
temperature to higher level (Hot Water). This only happens if
there is a occupancy in the conditioned zone. This hot water goes
back to the suction of primary chilled water pump and goes
inside the chilling unit for another round of heat exchange. Here
the cooling tower is used in conjunction with the condenser
water pump to cool the hot refrigerant coming after cooling the
water from evaporator. The cooling tower shall be forced induced
draft type. Since it is a open system therefore a pot strainer
which act as a filter is required in the condenser water MS piping.
All these units such as cooling tower , primary , secondary and
condenser water pumps , chillers requires the electric power to
run and the same is distributed through the MCC . All the air
handlers shall have there individual starter panel located nearer
to them inside there dedicated AHU room. All these drives and
panels except the cooling tower shall be put inside a enclosed
place to prevent from any damage. Also they need proper
ventilation for which exhaust fans are required in the AC Plant
room . The cooling towers need specific quality of water so as to
avoid the corrosion. The cooling tower also requires a need
based continuous supply of water. All the pumps , cooling
towers, chilling units have there own piping accessories as
fittings.

Since the chilled water will pass through various seasons, so as

to accommodate these seasonal expansion and contraction of
water a expansion tank is reqd to be kept above the top most
level of chilled water pipe.

Each air handlers have various piping accessories as fittings

such as butterfly valces , 2 way control valve ( which helps to
build up pressure in high side – reqd where secondary pumping
system is there ) , pressure gauges, thermometer, air vent, y
strainer and balancing valves.

So that noise doesn’t run through the occupied zone all these
air handlers shall be double skinned and all the supply ducts
shall be acoustically treated up to 6mtr from the blower outlet.
All the ducts supply air ducts shall have tail end insulation, since
return air is coming in contact with the supply duct. Fresh air
shall be injected inside air handler’s room to deplete the carbon
content and add oxygen in the return air.

All the toilets of the building shall have double door and shall
have individual exhaust fan.
ENERGY SAVING – 1. Chilling Units : - All the screw chillers have
part loading features which enables the chilling unit to operate
from minimum percentage to 100 % depending upon the load
requirement . And as result if there is a less occupancy the
power consumption by the chilling units are less.

2 . Secondary pumping system: All the secondary pumps

comprises of variable frequency drives which controls the speed of
pump as per the load requirement at conditioned zone. And this is
also based on occupancy at and as a result there is a low power
consumption and energy saving.

These variable frequency drives upon getting feedback from controller

either reduces or speeds up the pump rpm ( upto rated speed
only ) as per the cooling load at the any zone. The differential
pressure sensor cum transmitter is fitted across the supply and
return chilled water pipe at the farthest air handlers sends the
differential pressure signal to the logic controller of secondary
pumps and pressure signal is converted into electrical signal by
the transducer inside the system and the intelligence of
controller decides the speed reduction and starting of pump
based on there run hour.
