Teaching Math For Children

Doing math is one of the most important functions of life, since daily it is vital to
civilized human living. From childhood to old age we are concerned with math. The child in
school is faced with mathematical problems every day, as are the housewife, the carpenter, the
businessman and the space scientist [Glenn Doman,2012]. Mathematic is one of branch science
that supported all aspects of knowledge. Without mathematics other fields of science will not
be realized. Mathematic is part of our life, so mathematic can be applied in our life everyday.
We can said what time is it, if we know how to read a clock on the wall. When we go to
shopping, we also used the science of mathematic to pay our shopping. It was all calculation
of Mathematics. Mathematic is a abstract subject, its make mathematic become a difficult
lesson, but most of mathematics can also be described in terms of concrete. We can make a
child to love mathematic if we taught from the age of five or six. Many factors that support the
successful teaching of mathematics to children. The teachers role in fostering this learning is
complex. In addition, the one important for children is a language to solve math problems.
Mathematic become a difficult lesson. Many people thinked that mathematics is one of
the subjects that are not fun and exciting. Mathematics is regarded as difficult thing and tedious
because it contains symbols . In addition, Mathematics is a science based on the abstract
concrete , structured in the form of presentation. Based on the results of the fourth annual
survey TIMSS (Trends International Mathematics and Science Study) which is an international
study of the trend or development of mathematics and science are organized by the IEA
(International Association for the Evaluation of Education Achievement) , the first
participation in 1999 Indonesia was ranked 34 of 38 countries and ranks Indonesia in TIMSS
in 2007 dropped to rank 36 of the 48 countries. This fact shown that mastery of mathematics
is still very low. For some children , learning mathematics is a frightening specter. Therefore
they become lazy and seem to want to escape from the lesson . Instill the understanding that
mathematics is something fun good instilled early. So, its considered important to introduce
and teach mathematics from an early age in children.
Much of our world can be better understood with mathematics. Preschool is a good time
for children to become interested in counting, sorting, building shapes, finding patterns,
measuring, and estimating. While a child may end up being a good reader even if taught from
the age of five or six, there is a certain type of math teaching. Believe it or not, at the early age
of children less than six months of age are able to pair the two or three boxes in the same

numbers and they've been able to mark a simple operation groups of more than three objects,
but the results are not correct. Therefore planting mathematical concepts in concrete terms can
be inculcated early, because the development of mathematical thinking of children three to five
years was marked by efforts to present mathematical understanding through symbols that are
based on the combined symbols found alone and that obtained from the reflection of the
surrounding culture . Children are able to distinguish between numbers and letters, even though
they are not sure where the labels are correct.
All of children have a pottential to learn mathematic. Many factors that support the
successful teaching of mathematics to children. One of which is flash card. As long as we learn
and teach arithmetic in a very long and difficult. Count on the fingers, counting with sticks and
matches, then memorize sum up the division, memorizing formulas , etc. But, we can use flash
card to make it easy of mathematics lesson. Flash Card is a breakthrough in the field of
education of children who use picture cards as a learning tool. Methods Flash Card allows
toddlers are able to learn to read and count by remembering images and shapes. With this
method, the right brain child will be trained from an early age. Children are born with the ability
to see the quantity of objects they see [Glenn Domen,2012].
Mathematics lessons have always been good for young children. The difference now is
that these lessons look as fun as they possibly can and require as little preparation as possible
too. For parents at least, there has surely never been a better time than right now to teach math
to their little kids. So, teachers role become a something important for children. Because,
teachers as a second parents in the school. To help children to build foundation of developing
mathematical knowledge, teachers must observe children and intervene when necessary.
Teacher must have a strategy to teach children. They must make the lesson looks exciting to
children. With instrument visual teachers can make something abstract to concrete. In contrast,
when mathematical thinking is stalled, the teacher might intervene, discussing and clarifying
the ideas.
To solve mathematic problems not enough to just have a high intelegence. But, we must
taught children about language to solve mathematic problems. Learning activities can not be
separated from the communication process. there are two main kinds of interaction in which
spoken language can be related to the learning of maths in schools. The first is teacher-led
interaction with pupils. A sociocultural account of cognitive development emphasises the
guiding role of more knowledgeable members of communities in the development of childrens
knowledge and understanding and this kind of interaction can be important for their induction
into the discourses associated with particular knowledge domains. The second context is that

of peer group interaction. In maths education, such collaboration can be focused on solving
problems or practical investigations, which also have potential value for helping children to
relate their developing understanding of mathematical ideas to the everyday world.
So, thats why teaching math for children become something important, because must
taught from preschool. At that age, they intelligence can be developed easily. Teachers role is
one of which important to make it children understand more about mathematic. They need a
support to make it mathematic become an exciting subject. In addition, language have a big
effect to solve problems in mathematic, without understand language from that problem we
cant solve the problem. So, this essay has argued teaching math for children have a few
component to watch. Because, mathematic is the most important of functions life.
