MYTH AND EMINESCIANA MYTHOLOGY IN MEMENTO MORI

The myth is a symbol, a hieroglif that is not enough to see, to remember her shape and to be able to imitate on paper,
but also to be understood. The myth has [,therefore,] in Eminescu's view, the power to embrace meanings of the world
by hiding them or revealing them, after a personal logic of mixing history with legend.
EMINESCU: "The myth is a story whose elements match only in a small way the reality, and which reproduce
imaginary by the oral and written tradition, a way of explaining a difficuty of moral and metaphisic order.
The Memento Mori poem is a poetic history of mankind. The poet can see step by step the changing forms of
the generating ideas of the civilizations. We descover a mythic history ( the myth is establish by the knowledge of the
past in its ideal fazes) through names of divinities ( Zeus, Ovidiu, Zamolxis) legendary characters ( Orpheus,
Semiramida, Dochia) or historical personalities entered in the legend's domain ( David, Solomon, Decebal,
Napoleon ).
THE MYTH OF ORPHEUS:
The trac singer, the motiv of the unhappy creator, receives many names in the eminescian literary production:
Orpheus, Dionis, Ieromin, the Poet, Muresanu, Miron, Prince Charming, Calin the Crazy, Hyperion etc.
The death of the orpheic character is, usually, a loss, some kind of melting. The continuing of the human
personality is establish not by memories but by the purity of the phisic which comes out like an individual. The
character that is placed at the limit of sacred and profane, life and death, action and thought, individual and collective
is the genie burdened by the cosmic and earth responsability.
The mythic thought has access to the vision through rythm and musicality ; Orpheus is a modulation of the
poet's dimensions which look into the world musical, which charms the cosmic space - the sky, the earth, the ocean
and adresses the conscience, the superconscience and the subconscience.
The projection towards the cosmic space is made by a combination of the space with the soul, the substance
with the spirit overcoming the cosmic itinerary of the Luceafr towards the pure darkness of the beginings. In the
originary space, the poet sees the connection between the Eros and Thanatos, his attitude beeing one of contemplation
and not one of exploration ( like the time's case)(
Orpheus -a wise man of the mythic time - descovers the highiest
peack of the mythic time through a simple look). The enigmatic atmosphere of this picture is caused by the unclear
presence of misterous movement and swinging.
The herous's myth:
The liric myth is ,in Eminescu's opera, reported to an inside voice beyond the concions.Heroical is the meeting
point of the sacred with the profane, and the historical with the mythical. To obtain the inmmortality, the hero defeats
the obstacles of the destiny and travells the way to perfection. The hero has the calling of the origins and submits his
beeing in the cronological time and concionsly perceives his individual end.
The Dochia myth:
The myth of the Dochia fary is found in the Memento Mori where the poet will frequently stop the wheel of time
at the daybreack of the roumainian's history showing the fary country of the fary Dochia. The mythical represantation
of the old fortress of Dacia is a fortress of stones and forests, mythological personalized into tha fary Dochia, as a
symbol of historical age of the roumanian people and its continuation on the old land of Dacia.
