WRITING:
Students will prepare texts to satisfy a variety of
purposes, such as: recounts, narratives,
interviews and reports
SPEAKING & LISTENING:
Students will develop listening skills in group and
individual contexts.
Will develop the clear presentation of ideas in
formal and informal situations.
NUMERACY NUMBER:
Mental strategies - Addition facts to 30+
Rounding numbers, estimating, counting
Place value from tenths to 1000 +
Addition to 999 and above
Multiplication
Fractions – common and decimals

INQUIRY “Who? Me?”
LEARNING Students will focus on values in their lives,
especially those adopted by the school charter:
trust, clear and high expectations, respect and
responsibility.
They will investigate volunteers in the school and
their community.
Students will interview school leaders and
research famous leaders.
“Marvellous Machines”
In this unit, students will investigate the basic
components and operation of the six simple
machines and compound machines.
They will explore the design process and apply
their understanding through robotics, wood
work and small group projects.
 Effective reading strategies will be modelled in the
classroom, e.g.: visualising, connecting and
summarising.
 Exposed to a range of different texts in like-ability
literacy groups.
 Exploring real world examples of texts.
 Draft, edit and publish their writing.
 Participate in group and individual oral
presentations, receiving peer feedback.
 Groups share activities to develop effective
strategies.
 Interactive activities.
 Use concrete materials such as: counters, MAB,
abacus
 Estimate and measure with blocks, tape measures,
rulers
 Use clocks to read, estimate and measure times
 Read and label graphs
 Look at the core values of the school and those used
in the Bounce Back program
 Interview a school leader and research a famous
leader from history
 Present recorded interview and research to class
 In teams, volunteer for week to undertake
important community tasks, with the leader of the
group rotating every day.
