From the Rector

Dear Parishioners,
Refugees:
Everyone has been moved by the reports of the refugee crisis in Europe the
images and reports of fellow human beings fleeing their homes in terror are
sobering. In Holy Trinity we have in some small way tried to show our solidarity
with these people. On September 13th over three car loads of clothing and
medical equipment was donated by parishioners which made their way to Calais
and, when this was over-subscribed, to TRUST THANK YOU to all who
supported this.
Remembrance:
I am conscious that November heralds a more reflective time in the Churchs
year. As part of our liturgies I draw your attention to the All Saints service on
the 1st November in which we have an opportunity to remember those
parishioners and loved ones who have passed away. As we remember them may
we give thanks for their faith, love and example.
Special Needs:
As with last year I am asking for your support of our Special Needs Fund. This
fund will be used to give a helping hand to those in financial difficulties within our
parish and community. If you are fortunate enough to be in a position to help
supplement this fund please send your donation to me marked Special
Needs (or if you wish for the parish to receive a tax refund on the donation,
please make your donation through the Hon. Treasurer, Mr Chris Hurley).
Finally, (and I know it is very early...) Happy Christmas!
With every good wish,

RECTORS SURGERY - Every Tuesday 7-8 pm, Holy Trinity Rectory

Sheep Thrills

Made in Ireland

We have started the season with much enthusiasm. A unanimous decision was
made supporting the refugees by sending a large bag of knitted goods. The 2 nd
decision was supporting the Blackrock Hospice coffee morning by sending a
cheque from the collections made that morning. The message from our group is
that we welcome any one in the community who would like to come along on a
Thursday to share talents and make for the homeless. We have developed into a
strong focused group and with so many homeless we need more people to knit
and stitch. No joining just turn up at the Carry Centre Killiney, cost 3 for fresh
coffee and a home made biscuit. Contact Joan @ 087 2460078
Ladies Guild: The next meeting on Tuesday 10th November will be held in

Forthcoming Events

Christmas in Holy Trinity

Last year, as part of its Christian witness Holy Trinity parish and its parishioners
donated over 15,000 to local, national and international charitable purposes.
Like last Christmas, this year Holy Trinity will support the work of Bishops
Appeal, TRUST and children in need. This is done through gifts of money,
clothing and gifts. Thank you to all those who generously give!
Charity Christmas Cards
Following the service on the 8th November, there will be Tea
and Coffee in The Carry Centre. During this time, Charity
Christmas Cards, Calendars, Diaries and Gifts will be available
for sale. Charities due to be represented are the R.N.L.I.,
Guide Dogs for the Blind, the Blackrock Hospice, The Laura
Lynn Foundation, Holy Trinity and hopefully others!
Burns Supper
It is planned to hold a Burns Supper in the Carry
Centre on Friday 29th January 2016. We hope
to have a ceilidh, real haggis (veggies will be
catered for!), a wee dram and the
encouragement to don Scottish dress
More info from Zandra Laing or the Rector.

A day of the life of Michael Wolfe

God morgen (good morning). Its 28th September
2015 and Im on a short break with my son Marc in
Copenhagen.
Having cycled around and explored much of the
charming and friendly Danish capital yesterday,
including an obligatory stop beside The Little
Mermaid, weve come by train to Kronberg Castle in
Helsingor (Elsinore), best known as the setting for
Shakespeares Hamlet, whose spirit still roams the
hallways (and cash registers) of Kronberg. And then
its a short hop by ferry across the Oresund Sound
for a quick visit to Helsingborg in Sweden.
Back later in downtown Copenhagen, its hip, full of
vintage shops and retro bars skal! It seems everyone loves this hood (another
generations lingo, you see) as I join in the spirit of the evening. Tusind tak (a
thousand thanks) I say, at the end of another lovely day of living Danishly.

16

In the Garden

Autumn gardening brings back memories of the clean-up presided over by my

father centred on the now banned seasonal bonfire. Odd potatoes dug up were
placed in the embers the best ever baked potato- to be consumed with cheese
and country butter at bedtime. Yum!
At this time of year it is good to raise containers to allow better drainage. I also
use orange nets with gravel in them, placed in each container when planting. Its
time to plant tulip bulbs I prefer miniature bulbs especially daffs as they
cope better with windy conditions. And its time to start feeding the birds.
Next season I will be testing advice given on a gardening programme that aspirin
(salicylic acid) can have beneficial effects on plants. Apparently a diluted solution
helps germination and boosts immune systems to resist some pests and diseases.
It can even boost vegetable crops and make cut flowers last longer. Lots of
information on the web worth exploring.

Gordon Linney.

it up for use for our Thursday sessions. Contact Joan @ 087 2460078

Food

A suggestion for the foodies of Holy Trinity, to leave their leafy boulevards and
chic bistros of Dalkey for the more mundane area of Newtownpark Avenue in
Blackrock, beside the former Playwright Pub in a small Shopping area you will
find the Blue Orchid, our favourite restaurant a Thai restaurant with genuine
Thai chefs and staff, the food is excellent and reasonable, an added plus, beside it
is an O'Briens off licence where you can avail of their offers and the restaurant
will only charge 5 corkage. The restaurant has it's own wine list based on the
off licence. Should you like to experiment, the proprietors name is Nadir, if you
wish feel free to mention our name.
Two Recipe Suggestions by Hilary...
1, When making home made burgers try putting a cup of Rice Crispy's into the
mixture for added crunch.
2, If making a Tea - Brack put a tablespoon of sweet mincemeat and a handful of
crushed mixed nuts into the mix.

Hilary & Michael Murdoch.
