The unit Human Resource Development has THREE tasks. Please read ALL tasks carefully.

Each task has its own submission date. Please submit all tasks ON TIME.

Only ON TIME and EEC submission will be considered for a MERIT and DISTINCTION grade.

Late submission and re-submission will be capped to a PASS grade.

The attendance percentage and participation in class lessons and tutorials will contribute towards the
achievement of Distinction grade.

All assignments will be subject to PLAGIARISM checks.

PLAGIARISM is a serious academic

offence and will automatically lead to ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT PROCEDURES. In the event of
COLLUSION (similar/identical submissions) please note that both students will automatically be

Assignment Title

Planning and designing training and development, through


understanding how people learn and the suitability of
different training methods and initiatives

Scenario
Human resource development contributes to the overall success of an organisation through
providing learning, development and training opportunities to improve individual, team and
organisational performance. Hence, you are employed as a training and development manager in a
reputed company of your choice.

The company has asked you to take necessary measures to

make its training and development activities more effective. You have therefore been asked to
explain senior management how this can be done.

Task 1: Understand learning theories and learning styles (LO 1: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3)
Due in week 6 (19th October 2015 20th October 2015)
Training and development affects everyone in the organisation and it is appropriate at every level
from office junior to senior executive. Learning is complex and it is imperative employees explore
the related theories and their contribution to the process of transferring learning to the workplace. It
is important, therefore, for employees to appreciate that all staff should be encouraged to develop
their skills and knowledge to achieve their potential and. in doing so, enable the organisation to
meet its strategic objectives.

As a starting point, you are asked to arrange a presentation to the employees to explain the
learning theories and learning styles. You need to cover the following issues in the presentation:

Identify different learning styles and compare them in context of your chosen organisation
(AC 1.1).

Explain the role of the learning curve and the importance of transferring learning to the
workplace (AC 1.2).

Assess the contribution of learning styles and theories when planning and designing a
learning event for your chosen organisation (AC 1.3).

This presentation should be illustrated by PowerPoint slides or other appropriate media.

Task 2: Be able to plan and design training and development (LO 2: 2.1, 2.2, 2.3
and M1& M2) Due in week 10 (16th November 2015 22nd November 2015)
The management of the employer asked you to report them how to plan and design training and
development. They outlined the following areas of investigation.

Compare the training needs for staff at different levels of your chosen organisation (AC 2.1).

Identify which training methods are used in your chosen organisation and assess the
advantages and disadvantages of different methods used (AC 2.2).

What systematic approach is used by your selected organisation to plan and design a
training event for their employees (AC 2.3)?

Use appropriate report format with an introduction at the beginning, main body with
headings and sub-headings and conclusion at the end. A cover page, table of contents
page, references list and bibliography would be at highest standard. The report might
be written in 1000 1500 words.

The outcomes of training programmes need to be evaluated. Managers need to devise appropriate
ways of assessing or measuring the impact of staff training. The process of managing the training
cycle is important to an organisation. If it is well managed, staff will have the correct of up-to-date
skills and knowledge that will allow them to perform their jobs effectively.

This task, you will

examine how to evaluate training event.

You will further examine how to identify training needs across the organisation, as well as
understand how government-led vocational and general training initiatives contribute to the
emphasis on lifelong learning and continuous development.
Write a briefing report for the senior management of the company about evaluation process of
training event and explain government-led skills development initiatives. Make sure you cover the
following in the report.

Using suitable techniques prepare an evaluation plan for a training event of your chosen
organisation (AC 3.1).

Explain how you will carry out those techniques to evaluate a training event of your chosen
organisation (AC 3.2).

Review the success of the methods you used to evaluate the training event in your chosen
organisation (AC 3.3).

Explain the role of government in training, development and lifelong learning (AC 4.1).

Explain how the development of the competency movement has impacted on the public and
private sectors (AC 4.2).

Assess how contemporary training initiatives introduced by the UK government contribute to


human resources development of your chosen organisation (AC 4.3).

Ensure that all required learning outcomes and assessment criteria are covered in the
