HSBC Amanah Debit Card-i Overseas & Card-Not-Present Transactions Frequently Asked Questions

A: An overseas transaction is a transaction that is performed outside Malaysia such as overseas ATM
cash withdrawals and point-of-sale purchase (POS) transactions.
Q: What is card-not-present transaction (CNP)?
A: A CNP transaction is a card payment transaction where the cardholder is not physically present (i.e.
non face-to-face) at the merchant when the payment is made. CNP transaction includes the
following:
- Non-secured online transaction
- Mail Order Telephone Order
- Standing Instruction (SI)
Q: What is this initiative all about? Debit cardholders were previously not required to provide
consent to perform overseas and CNP transactions. Why are debit cardholders now required to
provide consent?
A: Banks are now required to block any cardholder using a debit card, or prepaid card from making
any overseas and CNP transactions which are not authenticated via strong authentication method
such as dynamic password, to protect and prevent bank customers from becoming victims of ebanking, direct debit and card-not-present fraud. However, if the cardholder understands the risks
of such transactions and wishes to continue with them, he/ she can opt-in to perform such
transactions.

transactions?

transactions in the future and how do I do so?

Amanah branch or contacting our HSBC Amanah Call Centre.
Q: If I opt-in for CNP and overseas transactions, will it be effective immediately or is there a grace
period before I can perform these transactions? Will it be the same for opt-out?
A: It will be effective immediately on your instruction.
Q: What is the risk associated with CNP and overseas transactions?
A: When a CNP and/or overseas transaction is performed with your debit card-i, there is a risk of your
account data being compromised leading to such information being used for unauthorized POS
purchase transactions and/or ATM cash withdrawals. In the case of overseas transactions, card
verification features for POS transactions vary between countries and some countries/merchants
may not have secure verification features. Fraudulent transactions may occur if your account data is
compromised.
