international trade.

The concept is to provide students with the necessary

understanding of the export management process,
in order to enable them to make an immediate and
valued contribution to the workplace on the successful
completion of their studies. Students will also be
familiarised through the unit with common processes
used in export management and some of the challenges
that those involved in export management face on a daily
basis.

The unit will focus on what is strategic management and how
it is important in the current global oil and gas scenario. The
unit will teach the students strategy techniques prevalent in
the market and encourage students to give their own views
as well as come up with their own techniques to analyse the
environment suitably. Strength, weakness, opportunity and
threat identification is a major part of strategic analysis for
which SWOT analysis and techniques will be taught to the
students.

The corporate industry works and focuses on its core

competencies, which makes a big part of the corporate
strategy and decision making which is why the unit will
include a part on teaching the students how to identify the
core competencies and how to use them for decision making.
Identification of risks and opportunities and weighing them
against the existing corporate information will be beneficial
for the students to learn to gain a better perspective on the
strategy. Students will be taught measured management and

the achievement of these objectives. The business
environment is, however, fluid and businesses need
to respond to both internal and external factors when
reviewing their strategies.

Strategies need to be designed in such a way as to achieve

competitive advantage. Both the strategies and the nature
of competitive advantage are dependent on, and need to
be aligned to, what the business is and what the business
does. There are a number of operational and emerging
issues that impact upon business strategy, and students

Unit description
On an average drill bits contribute less than ten percent
of total drilling cost. However types of bits to be used and
conditions at which they are going to be operated can have
significant effect on drilling time, consequently on total
drilling cost. The largest manufacturer of drill bits makes 34
types and 33 sizes and many more on request.

With more than three hundred slides and illustrations you

most suitable bit for your own case by employing modern
techniques and analyzing previous bit records from your
own field.

Practical Session- Participants will be given a set of data

from a real drill off test. They are expected to construct a
chart of ROP vs. WOB diagram. They then, will analyze the
chart to diagnose whether or not there is any bit balling
problem and any need for improvement in bit hydraulics.

Bit Operation
Practical Session- In this activity, Galle and Woods
analytical method will be practiced to determine the
optimum operating parameters for a given bit based
on previous drill bit records. Participants will be asked
to determine the optimum weight on bit and the rotary
speed to achieve minimum cost drilling.

power. For this problem they will be given a hypothetical
pump pressure versus circulation rate data.
