Valley Echoes

Christmas Is A Time Of Giving

Ginger and I hosted our annual Christmas party on Saturday. All our kids, their kids, and
their kids were there for the exception of one spouse. Our small home is getting a little
tight, but Ginger insist on having the entire family celebrate Christmas at home, as long
as everyone wants to come to the celebrations. After all, this is where it all began.
Were like other families, some of us dont see each other as often as we would like, but
when we all assemble its a great time.
Ive always heard: that most grandparents would rather give their loved one money while
theyre still enjoying life, so they can see the joy in their eyes and hearts. Ive been doing
this for some time now, but everyone knows that we cant continue this practice forever.
Ginger and I are delighted to give to our family as long as we can. Theres a lot of truth
in the enjoyment of watching your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren enjoy
Christmas together and for the right reasons.
Lets just say, There was a lot of hugging and smiles that filled our home.
Dale evans said it this way, Christmas, my child, is love in action. every time we love,
every time we give, it's Christmas.
We also celebrated our annual Christmas party for all employees associated with Arens
Corp. This too, was a great turn out and fun filled afternoon. Im saying all this to show
and teach you the true meaning of Christmas.
every year we give our employees a chance at winning an additional prize besides their
Christmas bonus. One of the prizes reads something like this: Congratulations! Youve
just won $25 to give to your favorite charity and another $25 for yourself.
One of our newest employees won this prize. When I went to her to give her the $25 cash,
she asked, Can I give the charity the entire $50? I was instantly blessed. Yes you can,
I affirmed with a smile.
This, readers, is the true meaning of Christmas. Giving is always more rewarding than
receiving.
This weeks bottom line: We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what
we give.
Winston S. Churchill
The bible says it this way, One man gives freely, and yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

Thank You for Attending Trunk or Treat

www.arenspub.com

Winter Storytime Announced

At P-Hill Library

Fields of Grace Worship Center would like to thank Covington

and the surrounding communities for their outpouring of support in
attending this years Trunk or Treat. The attendance this year was
1,650!
A special thank you to the Covington Police Department, the Covington Fire Department, and the Covington EMS for being there with
their vehicles and for passing out candy. Also, thank you to the Piqua
Fire Department for the use of the Fire Safety House. All of you were
and are very much appreciated. We appreciate your presence, as did
those who attended.
A new addition this year was the All SAR K9s. Thank you to the
members and their beautiful dogs who volunteered their time.
A huge thanks to Roger Finfrock for helping us out with supplying
additional much needed parking. What a relief it was to have that.
Thank you to the community for the use of the park this year. It
was such a success that the park will become the permanent home of
the Trunk or Treat. We look forward to using it again in March for the
Community Easter Egg Hunt.

Join in the fun with Miss Andrea at 1 p.m. Wednesdays, January 6 thru March 23, at the Oakes-Beitman Memorial Library in
Pleasant Hill.
Bring your child and enjoy a variety of stories, songs, fingerplays, crafts, and more. This program is geared for children ages
birth to five years of age.
Registration is requested. Call 937-676-2731.
The library is located at 12 N. Main St., Pleasant Hill.

Newton Students Attend National Leadership Conference

Youth from the Newton High School Chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America
(FCCLA) recently participated in a week-long leadership conference and STAR Event Competition held
July 5-9 in Washington, D.C.
Attendees participated in trainings and sessions that challenged, informed, and motivated members and
their advisor to become leaders through FCCLA. Along with over 8,000 other members and advisors, Newtons FCCLA chapter advisor Mrs. Patsy Burnside accompanied four members to the meeting Taylor
Edington, Emily McGlynn, Morgan Robbins, and Courtney Lucente.
The members attended leadership workshops and learned many skills from guest speakers. Members
also participated in National STAR Events. The team of Taylor Edington and Emily McGlynn presented
their Interpersonal Communication Project and received a gold rating. Morgan Robbins and Courtney
Lucente presented Chapter in Review Portfolio and received a silver rating. Both teams did an outstanding job in STAR Events.
National Leadership Meeting is always a great experience. Being a senior at Newton, I have been
fortunate to get to go last year, also. We learned many great leadership skills that we can use in our family,
school, and community, and made memories that will last a lifetime, said chapter president Taylor Edington.
National Cluster Meetings are designed to allow local students and teachers to take advantage of highquality training opportunities. This meeting is a time to meet other members from around the nation and
connect with FCCLA.

Newton FFA Officers Announce Plans for School Year

On August 1, the Newton FFA officers met and began to plan the 2015-2016 FFA year. The retreat was
held at the KOA campground in Brookville.
Plans were made to reward students not just in FFA but throughout the school for their hard work and
dedication. They also decided to host local agriculture tours with FFA members to learn more about agricultural businesses. The officers worked diligently in planning activities throughout the year as well as
working on improving the annual Fall Fair to be held October 2.
At the conclusion of the retreat, the officers parents and FFA alumni joined the students for a picnic
and campfire to review the plans for the upcoming year. FFA Advisor Jessica Helsinger says, This group
of officers is filled with potential. Their plans are evidence for the year that their focus is on the membership.
They truly think as selfless leaders and I am proud of their hard work.
Newton FFA officers include: President, Atley King; Vice President, Emily Shellabarger; Secretary,
Kristen Rappold; Reporter, Emily McGlynn; Treasurer, Rachel Justice; Sentinel, Windsor Rapp; and Student
Advisor, Nick Hoover. The officers will meet monthly during the year and intend to have a winter re-fresh
retreat to analyze the year.
