Hello everyone, the very last newsletter for the year!
The Year 6 Graduation was held today. I would like to thank Ms Hwang, Mrs Murray, Miss Dodson
and Mr Swann for the enormous amount of time and energy they contributed organising and
coordinating this event. Additionally Ms Jones, for preparing the students to perform two graduation
songs; and parents and staff for organising the morning tea, thank you for your contributions,
making this an exceptional Year 6 Graduation.
Congratulations go to all our graduating Year 6 students. They have been a great group and I know
they will leave Mount Lockyer with a solid foundation on which to build. Congratulations to the
award recipients. Their name and award they received is printed further in the newsletter.
Endeavour and Achievement Awards: The assembly, Thursday week ago, was devoted solely to
recognising students who have endeavoured to achieve their personal best and those who have
achieved academic excellence. Congratulations to the award recipients. I would like to make
special mention to Mrs Mills. Shirley coordinates and organises the Endeavour and Academic
Awards each year and does a brilliant job, thank you Shirley this is greatly appreciated.

Volunteers Morning Tea: Last Thursday was the Volunteer Morning Tea to thank and
acknowledge the enormous contribution Volunteers make to our school. It is through their generous
support that our school is able to offer a wide range of programs. The purchase of programs such
as Mathletics and Reading Eggs; subsidisation of swimming lessons, reading books for home
readers and library, student mentoring, all possible through the work of volunteers. Our school is
extremely grateful and appreciative of the contribution volunteers make.

This year he has been a presence in the school every day, providing support, guidance and
assistance to students and staff. On behalf of the school we would like to thank Ruben for his

prestigious award.

the beginning of the new school year 2016.

Volunteers have been a part of Mount Lockyer Primary School for many years and none more so
than Mrs Beth Daniels. Beth was one of our most active volunteers over a period of fifty years.
She was involved in the P&C, School Council, Safety House Coordinator, master chef of many
school camps, just to mention a few.
Sadly Beth passed away a few years ago. In memory of Beth, her family initiated the Beth Daniel
Volunteer of the Year Award. They felt that this would be a way to keep her memory alive and
something she would have most definitely approved. On behalf of everyone at Mount Lockyer thank
you most sincerely to the Daniels family for their on-going generosity.

This Thursday we will be holding the final assembly for the year, Room 22 Year 4 will provide the
entertainment. I look forward to seeing many of you there, however failing that, thank you for your
support over the year. All the best, Merry Christmas and I hope you have a happy, safe and
relaxing break.

After a hard years work at school, it is really important to
not forget what you have learnt over the holidays. Could
parents and caregivers please encourage your children to
continue to read. If children dont read over the holidays
they tend to slide backwards.

MANAGING STUDENT BEHAVIOUR

WHAT IS BULLYING?

The key to this approach is that the child is given a choice at each step to
follow directions or face increased consequences.
Students making GOOD CHOICES are acknowledged for their efforts.
For students making POOR CHOICES the following consequences
apply ~

Bullying is when a student or group

keep picking on another student. They
try to hurt them physically or
emotionally.
The
behaviour
is
deliberate and repeated.

STEP 1
Student refuses to follow directions.
Verbal warning.
STEP 2
Student still refuses to follow directionsIn-class consequence e.g. Time Out
STEP 3
Student still refuses to follow directionsOut-of-class consequence e.g. Buddy
Class.
STEP 4
Student still refuses to follow directionsRED CARD is sent to the office.
Parents will be requested to attend
school.

SUSPENSION
Students will be immediately
suspended for verbal abuse of
staff and/or violence towards
staff or students.

RE-ENTRY FOLLOWING
SUSPENSION
Students returning from
suspension must be
accompanied by an adult and
will attend the Intervention
Centre (Room 20) where an
Individual Behaviour
Management Plan will be
developed and implemented.

A fight or disagreement between

equal students is not bullying.
HOW TO STOP BULLYING

Tell an adult, it is not dobbing to

ask for help. Both victim and
those bullying will be counselled
and supported.
Do not be a by-stander; if you
witness bullying try to stop it or
report it.
IF YOU ARE BULLYING

Step 1: Warning
Step 2: In school isolation and
counselling at recess and lunch,
parents will be notified
Step 3:
For continued breaches
students will be suspended.
