Barriers of Communication

Definition of Barrier:Anything that prevents or obstructs passage, access, or progress is known as barrier.

Barriers of Communication:We know that communication is the activity of vying meaningful information. It includes a sender, a
medium, a message and finally receiver.
So a communication barrier is Obstacle in a workplace that prevent effective exchange of ideas or
thoughts. Such barriers include (1) status differences, (2) gender differences, (3) cultural
differences, (4) prejudices, and (5) the organizational environment.

Language barrier:
Barrier to communication resulting from speaking different languages.
Examples:

Physical Barrier:
It is a obstacle that prevents a message from reaching the inteded reciptent may be outside and beyond
and beyond the control of person concerned.Phycical barriers are things like:
- distance
- disconnected cable
- disability or decease
- distorted message

Emotional barrier:
"Emotional barriers" are emotional factors that impede a speaker's ability to deliver a clear message or
a receiver's ability to hear a message effectively. Many people are too shy to communicate
openly because of a fear of rejection or a mistrust of others. People may also hold back from
communication due to fear of hurting the listener. A fear of rejection from the listener is a major
cause of emotional barriers to communication.

Cultural barrier:
Wherever you live, you're going to be influenced by the attitudes, customs and practices of the people around
you. Those basic elements are the definition of culture. When a person of one culture encounters the
beliefs and resulting actions of another culture, there may be a clash. This can be a barrier to success.
Those barriers can have huge implications at work, school or in the wider community.

Gender barriers:
We are very well aware of the fact that men and women communicate at truly different speech patterns.
It is estimated that women generally speak around 22,000 50 25,000 words per day as compared
to men talking between 7,000 to 10,000 words per day. It is natural between the sexes as women
tend to talk more when compared to men. There are gender communication differences for the
reason that strings of a womans and a mans brain differs when it comes to the speech. Men
normally talk in a logical manner whereas women mix emotions and logic altogether.

Gender communication differences occur for the reason that men and women communicate differently
which is often mistaken by one another. To avoid Gender Communication Barriers between
men and women, it is ideal for them to improve their communication so that they can easily
comprehend and understand each other.

Perceptual barrier:
Communication can be broken when the senders intended message is unclear or the receiver perceives
it differently than the sender intended. Barriers or roadblocks to effective communication may
be physical, behavioral/emotional, linguistic and cultural. Perceptual barriers can lead to
confusion, misunderstanding, false information and false beliefs, resulting in poor
communication.

Noise barrier:
Background noise in the homes or businesses of your customers can be a barrier to communication.

Psychological barrier:
To be able to communicate effectively you will need the right state of mind so to speak. For example
the physiological state of mind will impact the way the message is received. Lets say for
arguments sake your talking to someone with personal problems and worries; they may be
preoccupied by personal concerns and not as receptive to the message as if they were not
stressed.
