The sweater is made using 2 strands of yarn

holder & cast on 6 new sts at opening edge. Work in
reverse of left front shaping.

SLEEvES (2)
Using 5.0mm needles & a double strand of yarn,
cast on 38 (42-46) sts & work in Patt Rib A for 4 cm
(1 in) [10 rows].
Cont in Patt Rib B.
When work measures 19 (21-24) cm (7 [8-9] in)
[48 (54-62) rows] total, cast off all sts.

STRAPS AT bOTTOM OF SLEEvES (2)


Using 5.0mm needles & a double strand of yarn,
cast on 17 sts & work in G-st for 3 rows then cast
off.

NEck bORDER:
Using 5.0mm needles & a double strand of yarn,
cast on 38 (42-42) sts & work in Patt Rib A for 3 cm
(1 in) [7 rows], then cast off all sts.

TO MAkE uP:
Join shoulder seams.
Sew neck border around neck edge.
Sew sleeves into place around armholes.
Sew the sleeve seams, sewing the bottom 4 cm
(1 in) on the RS to allow for turning up, then sew
side seams.
On Left Front, make 2 buttonholes without cutting
strands (see instr pgs), the 1st 0.5 cm ( in) from
neckline, the other 1 cm ( in) away. Sew 2 buttons
11mm ( in) dia. on right front in matching positions.
Sew 2 buttons 15 mm ( in) dia. onto front to make
eyes for the owl (see chart).
Sew the short edge of one of the straps to the inside
centre of a sleeve, 6 cm (2 in) from the cast on
edge, then fold to the front to hold up turned up

sleeves and fix with two 11 mm ( in) dia. buttons.

HAT
Using 2.5mm needles, cast on 104 (110-116) sts &
work in 5/1 Rib, starting with p6 instead of p5.
When work measures 1.5 cm ( in) [6 rows] total,
change to 3.0mm needles & work 44 sts in 5/1 Rib,
30 sts Cable B (inc 6 sts on 1st row [see placement
on chart]), 36 (42-48) sts 5/1 Rib starting with k1
(110 [116-122] sts).
After the 43rd row of chart, on the rem 102 (108-114)
sts work: 44 sts 5/1 Rib, 22 sts Rev St-st, 36 (42-48)
sts 5/1 Rib.
When work measures 15 (15-16) cm (6 [6-6] in) [54
(54-58) rows] total, cast off all sts.
Join side seams then top seam, centering Cable B
in the front.
Make two 4 cm (1 in) pompoms and fix one to
each corner of hat.
Sew two 15 mm ( in) dia. buttons onto hat to form
owls eyes (see chart).

Next row: p2, p2tog, p9 (11-13), p2tog, p1, p2tog,


p9 (11-13), p2tog, p2.
Work 1 row on the rem 27 (31-35) sts.
Rep this dec row on next row & foll RS row once.
Work 1 row on rem 19 (23-27) sts, then cast off.
Make a 2nd identical mitten.
Make a cord of 75 (80-85) sts & fix a mitten to each
end.

MITTENS
Using 2.5mm needles, cast on 33 (37-41) sts & work
in 5/1 Rib starting as foll:
3 mths: p3 instead of p5.
6 mths: as explanation.
12 mths: k2, then as explanation.
When work measures 2 cm ( in) [8 rows] total,
change to 3.0mm needles & work as foll: 4 (5-6) sts
Rev St-st, 8 sts Cable C (inc 2 sts on 1st row), 29
(32-35) sts Rev St-st (inc 4 sts on 1st row). (39 [4347] sts).
After the 24th row of chart, cont in Rev St-st on the
rem 35 (39-43) sts.
When work measures 9 (9-10) cm (3 [3-4] in) [32
(32-36) rows] total, cont as foll: p2, p2tog, p11 (1315), p2tog, p1, p2tog, p11 (13-15), p2tog, p2.
Work 1 row on the rem 31 (35-39) sts.
