Results and Discussion

There were 30 BSA students from 1st-3rd year enrolled at De La Salle, Lipa who
participated on the conduct of the survey regarding the effects of dealing with pressure
in studies. The survey indicates four choices: 4-Strongly agree, 3-Agree, 2-Disagree
and 1-Strongly disagree for the participants to elaborate their perceptions about the said
topic.

Table 2 implies that most of the participants agreed that the level of difficulty of a major
subject depends on the professor. It is because of how the way the professor introduced
topics to students. The knowledge of students about major subjects of Accounting may
not be enough for them to easily understand the topics. On the other hand, 9
respondents disagreed with the statement. This explains that they do not depend on the
way their professor teach them but rather choosing self-studying for better
understanding of the topics.

Table 4 explains that 12 respondents agreed that they ask their professors for some
clarifications when they dont understand the lesson. This simply means that students
cannot work by themselves. They still need guidance from their professors. Professors
can expound clearly some topics which would let the students better understand their
topics. On the other hand, 3 respondents strongly disagreed in the statement.

Table 5 indicates that most of the respondents strongly agreed and agreed that major
subjects gave them stress. Knowingly that these major subjects are hard to understand,
without coherent explanations, would likely bring stress to students. In addition to that,
aside from major subjects, students also provide time and effort on their minor subjects
thus, shortening their time focusing on their major subjects.

Table 6 elaborates that most of the participants agreed that they spend their leisure time
studying, not only with their major subjects but also their minor subjects. Instead of
spending their leisure time surfing the internet, straying at malls and doing unnecessary
things, they prefer to study their lessons in advance. 1 respondent strongly disagreed
that he/she spends his/her leisure time studying. That respondent might prefer goofing
around and relaxing himself than studying.

Taking up Accountancy as a course would basically require much time and effort. The
participants strongly agreed that time management became a must. Time is so limited
and it is not enough for students to finish all their tasks effectively therefore, students
must make the most of their time with the things that they prioritize the most. With
proper time management, students will be able to stay focus on the task at hand and
they will accomplish more tasks.

Precisely, Accounting subjects is a tough one and it requires much of your time. The
majority of the respondents agreed that they spend their time with their friends lesser
than the usual. This is because they prioritize their studies first before anything else.
They could get any time they want to spend with their friends but there could be limited
time for their studies. On the other hand, 11 respondents disagreed with the statement.
They might spend time with their friends as usual and their studies arent affected by
that.

Table 9 shows that most of the respondents agreed that they gave more concentration

in studying. Knowingly that Accountancy subjects are very challenging and difficult one,
students must provide more focus to their studies. The complexity of some problems in
Accounting subjects might not be easy for the students to absorb all the explanations
provided that they really understood the lesson.

Table 10 shows that most participants find it better to have a self-study than by groups.
Self-studying enhances ones exploration on different ways of thinking and they can get
through difficult concepts without depending on others or without asking for help.
Students enrich their learning capabilities if they study by themselves and trying to
figure out a lot on their own. In the contrary, 6 participants disagreed to have self-study
than in groups. This might explains that they can get lots of insights when they
brainstorm about a particular topic.

In choosing Accountancy as a course, students might feel the pressure

shouldering them in worrying over their grades, in managing time, in studying, in their
extra-curricular activities and many more. Based on the results of the survey, these are

the factors why students felt pressured regarding their major subjects in Accounting.
Starting off with the fail of time management of most students. Even if there are plenty
of things to prioritize, proper time management will help students to accomplish more
tasks which lead to higher efficiency. In addition, having good time management,
students will know how much time they have to finish their tasks, thus, reduces the
feeling of being rushed or cramming. By implementing time management skills, students
are able to get more tasks done in a shorter period of time leading to more free time.
Next to it is the way how professors educate their students when it comes to major
subjects in Accounting. The strategies of professors in explaining different concepts and
principles in Accounting would greatly help students in understanding and analyzing
their lessons. Some professors provide home works and take home quizzes for
students to boost their analyzing skills of solving complex problems in Accounting. Not
just for boosting their skills but also to urge students to find other references which can
help them better understand the problems and their explanations. For students to not
feel stressed in their studies, they should start reading in advance so they can easily
absorb and cope up to what their professors are teaching them. Students should always
give their ample time studying rather than doing unnecessary things. Moreover, selfstudying enhances ones exploration on different ways of thinking and they can get
through difficult concepts without depending on others or without asking for help.
Students enrich their learning capabilities if they study by themselves and trying to
figure out a lot on their own. In addition, studying in groups will also benefit students
because of sharing of different ideas and insights which lead to nurturing of ones mind.
