Homework 3.
My development story.
My name is Naila. I graduated Baku Business University. My bachelor degree
was International economic relations. My goal was to work at international
company and believed that I could do everything easily. One problem was that I
had no experience at work. After graduating I started to find a job, I sent my CV to
different companies. While I was waiting a response from any of these companies I
had a call from my university. The dean invited me to the university to meet with
rector. During our conversation with rector he asked me different questions like
what is my bachelor degree, did you have any certificates or other diplomas
besides this university, and what I think about the work. My answers satisfied him,
and 3 days later I started working as a secretary at the University.
The first two months I tried to get used to working so I had no practice but I
still thought that everything will be fine. The rector also got used to me, I was his
new employees and of course he could not determine how I work as fast. The first
year of my work was very difficult, I learned that my boss has very difficult
character. Everything was going not as I want and if once I did something wrong
my all day lasted bad. Even several times I wanted just quit. But once the boss
called me to his conversation. We sat down and condemned the current situation.
He was not rude with me, on the contrary, he began to motivate me. He said that I
was a good worker and a lot of things I can, problem is that you are very quickly
lose yourself. He gave me a lot of advice and I am grateful to him for this
interview. Because after that I started to work really better. Every day increased
practice, I was understanding what I am doing and why I am doing this.
3 years later I was promoted to the position of chief assistant rector. Though
he has difficult character I learned how to right communicate and how should you
talk to people. Then, I entered the magistracy and my goal to be good specialist at
our university. Now when I know my job very well I have many new ideas which
I always share with my boss. I am sure that in the near future I will reach higher
heights.

Homework 4.
Implementing strategy at my job
Baku Business University is a university with strong values. In all our
activities, we are unconditionally committed to excellence, as measured by the
highest national and international standards. We see ourselves as operating in a
global environment, with important local and national responsibilities and aim to
be among the best universities in our country. We encourage creativity,
independence, enterprise and initiative. We support academic freedom and
autonomy and we promote open academic debate and discussion. We will be
inclusive and provide equal opportunities for all. We apply the highest ethical
standards to all our activities and want to make a positive contribution to the
development of a fairer and sustainable world.
Even as we grow, we want to retain a genuine sense of belonging and
community in our departments, colleges, clubs and societies.
1. How is it being communicated and implemented?
The strategy is communicated to provide an environment that attracts the very
best staff and students from all over the world, encourages and facilitates academic
endeavour, and provides a supportive atmosphere for the development and sharing
of knowledge.
2. What improvements would you suggest?
I would suggest to recruit and retain the best researchers at all career stages
and support and mentor existing staff to offer them an attractive environment in
which their research can flourish.

Homework 5.
The process of change at our university happened 2 years ago. The rector
wanted to change almost everything. The new staff, new teachers who are more
talented, new study program even equipment at auditoriums. It was very hard year

but he was able to get what he want. He would be interested in all of the staff and
distributed works among the people.
The process included these kind of changes and people who will do this:
1. For planning of a new study program - Vice rector.
2. Changes in departmental and divisional affiliation - Accounting.
3. Attract new teachers from abroad and organize student meetings with
successful people in order to have experience and knowledge - Vice rector.
3. Employee termination or resignation - Human Resources Specialist.
4. Change old equipment and install in all auditoriums surveillance cameras Officer Technical Department.
According to the change model of Beckhard and Harris (Dissatisfaction x
Desirability x Practicality > Resistance to Change) I can say that, the members of
our university dissatisfied with the current situation before a successful change can
took place. Without dissatisfaction, no one will likely feel very motivated to
change. The propose solution must be attractive for the second step. They needed
to understand what it is. Every meeting organized by rector at the end of the day
helped a lot. The clearer and more detailed we made this vision, the more likely
was that the members wanted to agree with the change and move forward.
Resistance to change includes people's beliefs in the limits of the change
stubbornness toward any change and general inertia or lack of interest at the
beginning. So, university complied with all these rules and we succeed at all. Now
after these changes we want to improve more and more. I thing that in the future
we are waiting for a lot of change.
