1.0

PURPOSE:
This procedure describes the steps to be followed during concrete mix
design trials for various grades of concrete for Kalol Mehsana Gas
Pipeline Project.

2.0

SCOPE :
The scope of this procedure covers the requirements for concrete mix
design trials for KMGPP only.

3.0

Following documents in totality or in part shall form the reference

4.0 LIST OF EQUIPMENTS
Following equipments are to be used during mix design trails:1.

Concrete mixer Laboratory type. (Diesel / Electrical / Motor )

2.

Weigh balance. (Calibrated)

3.

Cube moulds.

4.

Slump cone.

5.

Thermometer.

6.

Miscellaneous items like wheel barrow, scoop, trowel etc.

7.

Laboratory Instruments for testing of ingredient of Concrete, fresh &

Hardened Concrete.

8.

Tamping rod of Table Vibrator

5.0 METHODOLOGY:
5.1 Source Approval of Material for Concrete:
All sources of construction materials will be identified. Then properties of
material shall be tested / checked for acceptance criteria w.r.t Technical
Spec. / relevant Codes.
Cement:
Cement shall be procured from approved sources/manufacture. Initially
MTC will be submitted to Owner / Consultant for Source Approval. During
execution process MTC for each consignment shall be submitted to
Owner/ Consultant for review.
Aggregates:
Coarse aggregate will be procured from approved quarries. Sample of
Coarse aggregate from the quarry will be sent to external / internal
Laboratory for testing. Coarse aggregate shall meet the requirements of IS
383. Fine aggregate will be procured only from sources. Sample of fine
aggregate will be sent to external / internal Laboratory for testing. Fine
aggregate shall meet the requirements of IS 383.
Water:
Water from bore well or nearby Terminal and/or NMC water will be used
for mixing in concrete and curing shall confirm to IS: 456:2000. Test report
of water shall be submitted to owner/consultant for source approval.
Admixtures:
Admixtures to be used in concrete (if required) will be procured from
renowned manufactures .MTC shall be submitted for approval.
5.2 Testing of materials for source approval:
After identification of sources of material all the materials will be tested
for source approval. The test reports will be submitted to
owner/consultant for source approval.

5.3 Conducting mix design trials:
The following procedure shall be followed for obtaining approval of
concrete mix of any grade:
1. Aggregates from approved source shall be tested for specific gravity,
water absorption, & grading analysis.
2. Trial mix proportions shall be established as per IS: 10262 or any other
accepted method of mix design or combination of both.
3. After establishing the mix proportions trial mixes will be carried out. All the
materials will be weighed on the weigh balance.
4. The properties of concrete in the fresh state such as slump, temperature
shall be determined for each trial carried out.
5. For each trial three cubes (of dimension 150 x 150 x 150 mm) each for 3,
7 & 28 days shall be cast. The cubes will be kept for curing under water.
6. The cubes shall be checked for compressive strength at the respective
period mentioned above.
7. The compressive strength results will be checked for compliance after 28
days. If they fail to meet the target mean strength fresh trials with revised
mix proportions shall be carried out.
8. Mix design report will be submitted to owner/consultant for approval.

6.0

QUALITY ASSURANCE & QUALITY CONTROL:

Quality Assurance shall be maintained by ensuring the systematic
implementation.
Of this Quality Plan and ensure that necessary quality records are
generated as per.
