Part 1

“If you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you,
but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your father forgive your
trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14-15).
The time had come for this special retreat for healing and transformation. A weekend designated as a time for
leaders to experience a divine encounter with the Lord. A sense of excitement and a stirring of a warring enemy
were definitely in the air. This retreat was no ordinary retreat, but an opportunity for healing and deliverance that
would release many of God’s people into their ordained destiny. It was no coincidence that the retreat was named
Encounter Retreat, designed for leaders to experience a higher dimension of healing.

My own heart was filled with joy and anticipation of what God had in store for us. The enemy desired to do
everything possible to attack those attending, from sickness to torment. My mind was made up; Satan couldn’t stop
what God wanted to do in my life. The purpose of the retreat were for leaders to experience healing of past hurts
and wounds so they can in return powerfully and effectively minister healing to others.

This retreat became the pivotal point of a great transformation of freedom for my own life. My experience was
freedom from various fears, inferiority and rejection. God set me on a course of an astounding path of forgiveness,
healing and wholeness. The Lord brought such strong healing and deliverance into my life that I realized that my
life would never be the same old way, fearful and blinded to my identity in Christ.

After being so wonderfully healed at this retreat, I sat watching the other ladies as they received ministry. I
observed that the women were having difficulty in receiving their healing, so I questioned the Lord within my heart. I
asked the Lord what was wrong with the women, why they were experiencing a lack of healing. The Lord spoke to
my heart that it was because of unforgiveness. This word of knowledge came somewhat as a surprise to me. Why
would unforgiveness block someone from receiving healing and deliverance? Although, I knew it was right to forgive
others, I didn’t know just how much we must honor God in this area. Through study of God’s word and research the
scriptures and other biblical sources confirmed God’s heart on forgiving others. He will not violate His Word or
principles, therefore if we are seeking God’s blessings, healing, deliverance, we must first obey our Father in the
simple things He has asked us to do. Forgiving others is no exception; there is no way of getting around it, we can
make all the excuses in the world why we will not forgive someone, your healing, blessing and deliverance will be
blocked, until you choose to forgive from the heart.
I saw firsthand what the enemy does to individuals who harbor bitterness and unforgiveness. The result was
torment, and a lack of healing. However, it is not God’s will for believer’s to live their lives tormented or bound with
unforgiveness. The Lord so desires to see us walk in total freedom.

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36, KJV).

It is a choice that we must make to daily choose forgiveness. The greatest love and forgiveness have been
extended to every individual on this universe. While we were still classified as sinners, God sent His only begotten
Son, to die for the sins of the world, thus extending to everyone the greatest gift – forgiveness, so that we can be
reconciled back to Him as sons and daughters. He gave us His Son sacrificially for a people who didn’t deserve
forgiveness, but because of His great mercy and grace He lavished this gift of forgiveness on us.

“But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the
Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.” (Romans 5:8 Amp.)

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful
to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him are healed and
made whole.” (Isaiah 53:5 Amp.)

When we choose to forgive we are choosing to let go of resentment, anger and bitterness. It does not mean that
the offending party didn’t deserve punishment or won’t be punished; however we leave that process of punishment
to God.

“Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for [God’s] wrath; for it is written, vengeance is mine, I
will repay (requite), says the Lord.” (Romans 12:19 Amp.).

If you choose to harbor bitterness, anger and resentment, it imprisons you in a prison cell spiritually, but when you
choose to give it up to God, the power of the Holy Spirit releases freedom, healing and blessings into your life.
Think of walking around all day long with heavy metal chains wrapped around your body and at the end of the
chain is a giant metal ball, it is so heavy and you don’t know why you’re feeling the way you do? That is how the
enemy imprisons spiritually, but we are called out of darkness and bondage. We must choose to walk in the
marvelous light.

Will you choose the path of forgiveness, healing and wholeness? It is God’s will for you to be healed, prosperous,
and whole. Get alone with God and ask Him if there is any area of unforgiveness in your heart? Allow the Holy
Spirit to guide you in repentance. Choose today to release it to God; His grace is sufficient for you.

May God grant to you the ability and power to forgive from the depth of your heart.
