ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONAL


DEPARTMENTS OF JAYA HUME PIPES (P) LTD
INTRODUCTION
Organizational structural and design not only affects other factors tooenvironmental stability, work flow, technology, size and life cycle, and corporate culture.
Hence is has an indirect effect on the other element in the Jaya Hume Pipes (P) Ltd.
Therefore, it is not surprise that there is an overriding importance given the structure in
the implementation of strategy. With a structural framework in place, people working
within a firm known how to interrelate their actions with the actions of others to support
and execute the organization strategy.
The design of the organizational structure is a critical task of the top management
of organization. Organization structure refers to the organization arrangements and
relationships. It prescribes hat formal relationship among various positions and activities.
The unit has a tall organization structure. This will help in the smooth functioning of the
activities of the company. The assistant manager of each department is responsible for
activities done in their respective departments.
The organizational chart is the visual representation of underlying activities and
process being undertaken by the organization. Organization chart have their origin in
medieval times. Diagrams outlining crunch hierarchy can be found as far as medieval
times, in churches in Spain. The organizational is represented by both the vertical and
horizontal aspects of organizational hierarchy.
Departments are created to perform strategically important tasks. Finding the right
balance between vertical control and horizontal coordination is an important design
decision. Departmental grouping can be a functional, division, multi-focused, or
horizontal grouping.
The hierarchy of Jaya Hume Pipes (P) Ltd has been displayed in Chart 4.1.

The functional departments are very important in any organization. In order to


understand the different functional departments of Jaya Hume Pipes (P) Ltd. an attempt
was made here.
In this company there are mainly five departments

Production department
Marketing department(including the selling functions)
Human resource management department
Finance department
Research and development department

The explanation about the company departments are as follows:

Production department
Jaya Hume pipes bring forth rcc pipes up to 1200mm dia is exclusively reserved
for manufacture in the SSI sector. These reinforced cement concrete Hume pipes are
widely used drainage, sewerage, culverts and irrigation. RCC pipes are classified as
pressure and non pressure pipes viz.Np1, np2, np3, p1, p2, p3, for use in specific
conditions. These pipes are made from cement, coarse and fine aggregate, sand, mild
steel and HB wires and bars.
Process of manufacture
The reinforced cage is first prepared on the cage-winding machine by hand
process. The cage is then placed inside the pipe mould which is then hosted up and
mounted horizontally on the turn union. Its rotated by driving shaft with variable speed
arrangement, the rotation is kept slow in the beginning and then the speed is increased.
The concrete mixture for the RCC Hume pipe is prepared in proportion of 1:2:5:2:5 of
cement stone, metal and sand respectively. The cement concrete is fed into the moulds
during rotation which spreads inside evenly. The time required for completion of this
operation depends upon the diameter and class of the pipe. The pipes are kept in the
mould for 24 hours. On the following day the pipes are removed from the moulds and

submersed in water in the curing tank for about 15-20 days depending upon the class of
the pipe. The specimen of the pipes is subject to the following tests viz:

hydrostatic

pressure test, three edge bearing test, absorption test, permeability test.
Quality control test & standards
The bureau of Indian standards has formulated is458:2003, for maintaining
quality of the products has been tested by DGS&D and SGS Company.

Marketing department
This company marketing department plays very limited role in the company
scenario. The main intention in the marketing department is to create demand for pvp and
rcc and steel pipes and also the customer satisfaction plays a main role in this company
products through generate profits.
Actually there is no need for to do marketing department analysis in this company
why because the company is having the manufacturing units all over the Andhra Pradesh,
telangana, tamilnadu and Karnataka. And also in India the Hume pipes manufacturing
competition is very less so they manufacturing the products are easy to sales possibilities
are very high. And also the marketing potential is that public health engineering
department plays vital role in this company. Public works department, agriculture,
horticulture and forest department.panchayats municipal corporations are the bulk
consumers of rcc pipes. Most of the customers are approved civil contractors who are
executing the works of the government department and public sector undertakings.
Presently government is giving stress on rural irrigation and improving methods of water
supply scheme, so the demand for pipes is increasing.

Human resource department


In Jaya Hume Pipes (P) Ltd company the human resource management
department is carries out the following functions.

Manpower planning
It involves the planning for the future and finding out how many employees will
be needed in the future by the business and what types of skills should they posses it
depends on the following factors.
The number of people leaving the job and the projected growth in sales of the
business and the technological changes and the productivity level of the workers.
Job analysis and job description in the company
Under this company the human resource department is also involved in designing
the job analysis and job description for the prospective vacancies.
Under job analysis is the process used to collect information about the duties,
responsibilities, necessary skills outcomes, and work environment of a particular job.
The job descriptions are written statements that describe duties, responsibilities,
most important contributions and outcomes needed from a position, required
qualifications of candidates and reporting relationship and co-workers of a particular job.
Determine wages and salaries
In this company the hr department is also involved in conducting market surveys
and determining the wages and salaries for different position in an organization. This
decision may be taken in consultation with top management and finance department in
jaya Hume Company.
Recruitment and selection
In this company the recruiting the people by the human resource manager is to
recruit the best people for the organization depend on the quality of its workforce. Details
regarding the recruitment and selection procedure can be found.
Performance appraisal
Once the employees are recruited, the human resource department has to review
their performance on a regular basis through proper performance appraisals. in this

company it is the process of obtaining, analyzing and recording information about the
relative worth of an employee. The focus of the performance appraisal is measuring and
improving the actual performance of the employee and also the future potential of the
employee. Its aim to measure what an employee does.
On the basis of performance appraisal the human resource department will set up
an action plan for each employee. If the employees need any training then he provided
that.
Employee welfare and motivation
In this company the employee welfare is main thing why because the employees
are the main pillars to this company success and everything. Happy employees mean a
healthy organization. Human resource department also reviews organizational policies
and its impact on the motivation of the employees.

Finance department
Finance department is headed by finance manager. Finance manager reports to the
managing director in case of strategy and urgent issues and take decisions. Finance
manager works in the coordination with chief accountant, production manager, marketing
manager.

Functions of Finance department:


Finance function is concerned with all aspects of business operations. It is very
difficult to set limits to the finance function. The key activities under finance department
are as following:

Management of firms assets structure.


Finance analysis, planning and control.
Management of firms financial structure.
Estimating capital requirement.
Determining sources of fund.
Utilization of fund.
Disposal of surplus.
Management of cash.
Financial controls.

Book keeping procedures


Keeping records of the purchases and sales made by a business as well as capital

spending.
Preparing final accounts:
Profit and loss account and balance sheets
Providing management information:
Managers require ongoing financial information to enable them to make better
decisions.

Management of wages
The wages and salaries section of the finance department will be responsible for
calculating the wages and salaries of employees and organizing the collection of income
tax.
Raising finance
The financial department will also be responsible for the technical details of how
a business raises finance e.g. through loans, and the repayment of interest on that finance.
In addition it will supervise the payment of dividends to shareholders.

Research and development department


The research and development of the company in the company is gives very
important other than marketing, human resource, production departments.
Research and development wing are well trained and quite aware of the demands of the
market. They ensure that all the research is based on latest market trends and strive
towards developing the range of products accordingly.
