LONG SPAN AND SPECIALITY BRIDGE S

AECOM Long-Span and Specialty Bridges business practice:

AECOMs team of experts are dedicated to researching and modelling all possible
transportation solutions for grade separated river crossings. We create an enviable brand
name and bid credibility as a whole; contributing to major wins in which long span bridge
prowess is a key differentiator. The practice is a dynamic aspect of our success and
reflects our reputation for excellence in project delivery around the world.
Part of the driving force for modern day bridge engineering is the use of more durable,
higher strength materials - it is now possible to have a lighter structure that is actually
stronger than before, a major breakthrough for long-span bridges. Advances in wind
tunnel testing, earthquake simulation, seismic hazard assessment, shake-table testing,
centrifuge testing, hydraulic modelling and many other engineering science techniques
are allowing us to conduct more thorough investigations on hazardous conditions such as
wind storms, earthquakes and deep scour in river beds so that we can better anticipate
and manage changing environmental risk factors.
Examples of technical innovation within the sector are driven by mega projects that
include the Sutong Bridge, the longest of its type in the world and the winner of ASCEs
2010 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award; Stonecutters Bridge, the second
longest of its type in the world and the winner of the 2011 George S. Richardson Medal;
the Tsing Lung Bridge, a third generation suspension bridge design with a main span of
4,652 feet (1,418 meter), and the Padma Bridge, an approximate 4 mile long (6.15
kilometre) two-level, combined railroad river crossing.

Standard scope of services for large river crossings includes:

Bridge Forms:
Methodology are finalised with a focus of achieving standardization of structural design
and construction efficiency and economy.
The structure broadly divided into three basic parts, based on the structural
configuration.
i
Main bridge over river crossing
ii
Approach Viaduct
iii
