I.

RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CRITERIA FOR GRANT/SUBSIDY

OBJECTIVE: This grant is made available to promote scientific research paper writing among all
Fellows and Diplomates of the Society.
GENERAL RULE: The research grant is open to all Fellows and Diplomates of the Philippine
Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (Foundation), Inc.
SPECIFIC RULES:
1. The grant/subsidy is available to POGS members (Fellows and Diplomates only).
2. It must be a valid research work.
3. The subject matter of the research proposal should be relevant to the science or practice of
obstetrics and gynecology.
4. The project proposal must include statistical design and budget requirement. Each manuscript
should be in this sequence: Title; Abstract (not more than 250 words) and key words;
Introduction; Materials and Methods; Time Table and Budget.
5. The maximumm initial funding shall be worth P50, 000.00 (50% upon approval of the
research and 50% upon completion). If the project is worthwhile, funding may be increased at
the discretion of the Board of Trustees and subject to availability of funds.
6. There should be a legal contract between the parties, POGS and the researchers/s, to include
time table, accounting of funds, audited financial report, and all other pertinent provision
necessary in the conduct of the research.
7. The paper should be published in the Philippine Journal of OB-GYN. If the author wishes to
publish the paper in an international or another local journal, a letter of notice should be given
to POGS. Acknowledgement of POGS must be included in the published article.
8. There is no limit to the number of research proposals applied.
9. There should be no conflict of interest if there is a co-sponsor (co-sponsor should not be a
pharmaceutical company).
10. Deadline of submission of application is on June 28, 2013. Six (6) copies of the paper should
be submitted).
11. The Fellow/Diplomate (author/s) should submit a quarterly progress reports from the time
that the grant has been approved up to the completion of the research work.
12. The Fellow/Diplomate (author/s) should complete the research work within the timetable
indicated in the research proposal. If ever there is a need for an extension of the time to
complete the research work, the Fellow/Diplomate (author/s) shall submit a letter of request
for extension to the POGS Committee on Research subject to the said committees approval.

II.

RESIDENTS INTERESTING CASE PRESENTATION CONTEST

OBJECTIVE: This is designed to promote interesting case presentation among OB-GYN residents.
GENERAL RULE: The contest is open to OB-GYN residents from accredited training hospitals.
SPECIFIC RULES:
1. The subject matter of the scientific paper should be relevant to the science or practice of
obstetrics and gynecology.
2. The paper should not have been published in full in any local or international publication.
3. Re-submission of previously submitted papers is discouraged.
4. The principal author MUST BE A RESIDENT. One of the authors MUST BE A
CONSULTANT of the Department.
5. If the submission is selected for presentation, the principal author must be the one to
orally present the paper. He/She must be a resident at the time of presentation.
6. The Society reserves the right to publish the winning papers in the Philippine Journal of OBGYN (PJOG). Non-winning papers worthy of publication will be submitted to the Editorial
Board of the PJOG for consideration. Authors will be formally informed by the PJOG
Editorial Board before actual publication.
7. Winning and non-winning papers if author/s so wishes may instead be submitted for
publication in other local or international journals. Notice should be given to the Committee
on Research and the PJOG Editorial Board.
8. Cash and certifications will be awarded to qualifying papers:

MANUSCRIPTS:
1. Manuscript must be written in English on standard 8.5 x 13 inch paper on one side only,
double space and margin of 1.5 inches on the left side and 1 inch on the right, top and bottom
margins.
2. Each manuscript should begin in this sequence: Title; Abstract (not more than 250 words)
and key words; Introduction; Case Discussion (in paragraph form); Summary and
Conclusion; References; Tables; Illustrations (with legend) and pictures (colored or glossy,
black and white).
3. Only standard abbreviations are acceptable.

4. Authorship credit should be based only on:


1) substantial contributions to conception and design or acquisition of data, or analysis
and interpretation of data
2) drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content
3) final approval of the version to be published
GUIDELINES:
1. Six (6) copies of the manuscripts in folders and an electronic copy either in USB or CD (with
title label) must be submitted.
2. Identity of the author/s and institution should not be mentioned anywhere in the paper.
None compliance may be grounds for disqualification of the paper.
3. Another page containing the title of the paper, name/s & contact numbers of the
author/s & the institution of origin, and signature/s of the author/s plus a written
certification by the Department Chair of the principal authors training status at the
time of submission should be placed in a sealed envelope.
4. The six (6) manuscripts, USB/CD and the sealed envelope must be placed in a long envelope
and must be submitted to:

5. Failure to comply with the manuscript Rules and Guidelines may be grounds for automatic
disqualification from the contest.

PROCEDURE FOR JUDGING:
1. All scientific papers submitted on or before the deadline will be screened by the Committee
on Research. The chosen papers for competition will be presented to a panel of judges on:

Diliman, Quezon City
2. Panel of Judges as chosen by the Committee on Research will evaluate the papers based on
the following criteria:
- Significance and importance of the case
- Review of literature
- Documentation
- Case discussion
- Adherence to the format
3. Decision made by the Committee on Research and the Board of Judges are final and
irrevocable.

RESIDENTS RESEARCH PAPER CONTEST

OBJECTIVE: This contest is designed to promote scientific research among OB-GYN Residents.
GENERAL RULE: The contest is open to all OB-GYN Residents from accredited training hospitals.
SPECIFIC RULES:
1. The research paper must deal on a subject relevant to the science or practice of OB-GYN.
2. The paper should not have been published in full in any local or international publication.
3. Re-submission of previously submitted papers is discouraged.
4. The principal author MUST BE A RESIDENT WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF
PRESENTATION if selected. One of the co-authors must be a Consultant of the
Department.
5. If the submission is selected for presentation, the principal author must be the one to
orally present the paper.
6. The Society reserves the right to publish the winning papers in the Philippine Journal of OBGYN (PJOG). Non-winning papers worthy of publication will be submitted to the Editorial
Board of the PJOG for consideration. Authors will be formally informed by the PJOG

OBJECTIVE: This contest is designed to promote scientific research paper writing among all Fellows of
the Society.
GENERAL RULE: The contest is open to all Fellows of the PHILIPPINE OBSTETRICAL AND
GYNECOLOGICAL SOCIETY (Foundation), Inc.
SPECIFIC RULES:
1. The research paper must deal on subject relevant to the science or practice of OB-GYN.
2. There is no limit to the number of papers a Fellow of POGS may submit.
3. The paper should not have been published in full in any local or international publications.
4. The principal author must be a Fellow of POGS.
5. The Society reserves the right to publish the winning papers in the Philippine Journal of OBGYN (PJOG). Non-winning papers worthy of publication will be submitted to the Editorial
Board of the PJOG for consideration. Authors will be formally informed by the PJOG
Editorial Board before actual publication.

Fellow of POGS and a certificate of authorship by the author/s and co-author/s that the
research paper is a result of his/her/their investigation, must be placed in a sealed envelope.
4. The six (6) manuscripts, USB/CD and the sealed envelope must be placed in a long brown
envelope and submitted to:

- Appropriateness of Methodology
- Presentation of Results & Data Analysis
- Discussion
3. Announcement and awarding of winners for the contest will be held during the POGS Annual
Business Meeting POGS Annual Convention.
4. Decisions made by the Committee on Research and the Board of Judges are final and
irrevocable.
