Christ Cathedral Montessori
Mission Statement
Christ Cathedral Montessori School (CCMS)
provides quality education in an environment which
fosters a child’s love of learning and honors the
natural development of a child’s physical, mental,
emotional, social and spiritual growth.
Christ Cathedral Montessori School is a preschool
for three to six year-old children. It is located on
Christ Cathedral Episcopal Church premises and
meets from 8:45 to 11:45 a.m. Monday through
Thursday. CCMS follows the public school calendar
and is in session for approximately 36 weeks each
year. CCMS follows the Montessori model of cur-
riculum and instruction and is enhanced by Chris-
tian principles with appropriate daily worship.
Partnership with Parents
Christ Cathedral Montessori School recognizes the
importance of the home-school relationship. Good
communication between parents and teachers
builds mutual understanding and provides consis-
tent guidance for each child. By strengthening
these ties, the learning process is enhanced in both
the home and the school.

The Classroom
The goal of our environment is to stimulate learning.
The noncompetitive atmosphere provides children with
opportunities to explore and develop their individual
potential.
Needs of the Individual Child
Montessori curriculum is designed to be responsive to
the individual child. It supports and enhances each
child’s emerging abilities.
Learning Activities
Activities are designed to foster a positive attitude to-
ward learning and to enhance each child’s self-esteem.
Montessori Teachers
The teachers act as facilitators. They introduce the
children to the environment and are trained to recog-
nize a child’s readiness to learn and to guide individual
progress.
Christian Montessori Approach
The aim of the Montessori approach to education
is to help the child develop a sense of security and
identity. The teachers share a genuine love and
concern for each child as an individual. They help
the child to be tolerant, creative, cooperative,
imaginative and to show initiative and independ-
ence. Each child will grow physically, mentally,
emotionally, socially, and spiritually.
Physical
The hands of a child are the instrument of the mind.
The environment lends itself to the development of
the large and fine motor skills which help develop
mental capacity.
Mental
Children learn through their senses. When children
organize external activities, they internalize order.
Practical Life, Art, Sensorial, Language, and Math
activities develop concentration, organization, and
self-confidence.
Emotional
The aim of the classroom environment is for
children to feel good about themselves as well as
develop a sense of self worth and independence.
The environment is prepared in a positive way to
help the child meet his or her learning needs.
Social
The child is encouraged to establish relationships
with peers and adults. He/she is shown how to
express needs in a positive way.
Spiritual
Teachers communicate to the child that God, our
creator, loves and cares for the child and his/her
family and friends, and that all the wonders of the
world and life are God’s gifts through Jesus Christ.
