Beforewedelveintothedetailsofdimensionalmodeling,itishelpfultofocusonthefundamentalgoalsofdatawarehousingandbusinessintelligence.Thegoalscanbereadilydevelopedby
walkingthroughthehallsofanyorganizationandlisteningtobusinessmanagement.Theserecurringthemeshaveexistedformorethanthreedecades:

TheDW/BIsystemmustpresentinformationconsistently.ThedataintheDW/BIsystemmustbecredible.Datamustbecarefully
assembledfromavarietyofsources,cleansed,qualityassured,andreleasedonlywhenitisfitforuserconsumption.Consistencyalsoimplies
