1. So  can  you  tell  me  who  do  you  share  the  household  with  (if  anyone)?
My  brothers  (14  and  23)  and  my  parents.

2.  And  how  long  have  you  been  living  here?

21  years

3.  Do  you  use  the  kitchen  a  lot  or  does  any  other  member  of  the  household  use  it  frequently?
About  average  use,  but  my  mother  does  most  of  the  cooking.

4.  How  oGen  on  a  daily  basis?

5.  What  are  the  common  acIviIes  you  encounter  in  your  kitchen  environment?
Using  the  microwave  or  geMng  something  from  the  fridge

6.  How  would  you  describe  the  kitchen  atmosphere?

Cozy,  warm

7.  Do  you  hold  social  events  within  your  home?  How  does  this  change  the  kitchen  environment?
The  kitchen  is  mainly  used  for  cooking  at  social  events,  the  actual  dining  is  done  in  the  dining  room  due  to  a  
lack  of  space  in  the  kitchen.

8.  Since  you  have  been  living  here,  have  you  refurbished  or  personalised  your  kitchen  environment?
Yes,  complete  refurbishment  

9.  Could  you  tell  me  about  the  refurbishment?  What  changes  took  place?  Any  implicaIons  or  parIcularly  
easy  Imes  you  had  when  the  kitchen  was  under  construcIon?
New  cupboards,  completely  new  appliances.  There  weren’t  a  lot  of  implicaIons,  since  it  was  a  bespoke  
kitchen.  InstallaIon  took  about  2  days.

10.  Did  you  find  that  the  kitchen  design  had  to  be  fi[ed  around  the  appliances,  or  was  it  the  appliances  
which  fi[ed  in  with  your  kitchen?
Appliances  were  fi[ed  to  the  kitchen  in  a  logical  way.  Microwave  and  fridge  close  to  the  table.  Hobs  and  
other  appliances  well  spread  out  for  maximum  workspace.  

11.  How  much  Ime  was  spent  on  the  kitchen?

12.  In  relaIon  to  other  rooms  in  the  house,  did  the  kitchen  receive  a  higher  or  lower  budget  for  
refurbishing.

13.  Is  this  a  one  off  thing,  or  do  you  constantly  adjust  the  kitchen?
One  off  thing

Ok,  now  to  focus  more  on  the  appliances,  being  the  oven  and  fridge;
14.  Focusing  on  your  oven  and  fridge/freezer  appliance,  can  you  remember  where  you  purchased  them  
from?
Oven:  Novi,  Fridge:  Mille
15.  Was  there  any  parIcular  reason  for  this?
Reliability  of  the  brands.
16.  What  made  you  purchase  into  the  brand?  What  feature(s)  sold  the  appliance  to  you?
Reliability  and  brand  image

17.  Have  you  encountered  any  problems  with  either  appliance?  Could  you  specify  these?
Hob  is  a  reflecIve  glassplate,  hard  to  clean.

18.  How  do  you  adapt  to  these  problems,  if  you  can  that  is?
Scrub  harder.

19.  In  an  idea  world,  what  would  the  oven  and  fridge/freezer  offer  you  to  make  your  life  more  convenient?  
Your  response  does  not  need  to  be  feasible?
AutomaIc  microwaving  (scan  product  and  automaIc  seMngs).

20.  Could  you  describe  to  me  your  typical  return  from  grocery  shopping  as  of  when  you  walk  into  the  
kitchen?
Groceries  in  the  car  get  carried  into  the  uIlity  room,  and  sorted/put  in  their  place.

21.  Do  you  have  any  implicaIons  when  puMng  your  goods  away?
Not  that  I  can  think  of.

22.  How  oGen  do  you  cook?

once  per  month

23.  Do  you  enjoy  cooking?

Yes

24.  Why  is  this?

Because  I  enjoy  good  food,  and  seeing  the  ingredients  evolve  into  a  meal.

25.  Do  you  cook  on  behalf  of  yourself  or  for  the  complete  household?
Usually  for  myself.

26.  What  are  your  main  concerns  and  problems  you  encounter  when  cooking?
Storage  and  organizaIon  of  the  working  surface  and  tools.

27.  Do  you  ever  alter  the  seMngs  on  your  fridge  and  oven?  Do  you  understand  how  to?
No,  but  my  mother  does  alter  the  oven  seMngs  depending  on  her  cooking.

28.  Have  you  recently  seem  any  oven  or  fridge  appliances  which  have  ‘caught  your  eye’?  Could  you  name  
these  if  any?
American  fridge  where  you  can  take  out  bo[les  without  opening  the  full  door.
