There was a dead space movie though. Don't remember how good it
was, but it was certainly watchable for someone unfimilair with the
series.
Dead Space: Downfall Western animated, very gory, but 6.3 on imdb
for a video game movie is good in my book.

That movie was stationed right before dead space one, it somewhat

Yeah, still was a good watch IMO, although it doesn't carry much

So I watched event horizon for the first time last night since
everyone says its scary and awesome... I got a dead space vibe
from it, but didn't think it was that great. I liked the idea of the ship
going to hell, but they didn't really show the hell part of it much.
Just split second flashes of crazy people at most. Maybe it's a
generational thing, like it was scary for its time, but I didn't think it
was that great (tho it was still a decent movie). I really want to
appreciate it tho, if anyone can explain why it's so highly
recommended ?

[]RemnantEvil 21 pontok 7 rja

Yeah, I watched it on an international flight. I love that kind of cold

open where the protagonist has nothing and gradually builds an
inventory while trying to figure out what's going on. It's why I love
the first Saw so much, and it's why escape rooms have become so
popular lately - that combination of problem solving alongside
mystery.

Cube

permalink

rokon

[]CactaurJack 2 pontok 28 perce

YES! They had NOTHING for a budget, kinda like clerks, so you
make up for a lack of busy sets and FX with content. Cube is great,
Cube 2 is passable and Cube: Origin (I think that's the title) is great.
They did what Saw did well before Saw, love the films.

It's an unfortunately uncommon style of movie. Aside from the

fantastic (and great and then mediocre) trio of Cube films, Eden Log
has the same kind of aesthetic, as well as being pretty mysterious.
The animated Dead Space films come a bit closer to capturing the
feeling of the games, which has that kind of lost, confused,
scrounging style.
Outland is an older one with Sean Connery. The Exam was pretty
good, though more restricted in setting.
Shutter Island also put on a really, really strong show. You are
basically the third detective alongside Oscar winner Leonardo
Dicaprio and the Incredible Hulk.
The Game is a good one too. And for perhaps the only light-hearted
one, Clue - there's no central protagonist, as such, to follow around,
but you're kind of like a guest at the party anyway.

It wasn't screened for critics. They tend to be harsher with movies

that aren't screened...or those movies are really bad. It is also a
genre flick, those generally get lower scores on Rotten Tomatoes as
well. It was a solid space survival horror flick. Saw it in theaters at a
matinee. Bought it used on Blu-ray. It was worth both those price
ranges.

permalink

[]yank_the_thang 7 pontok 2 rja

Rotten tomatoes is garbage these days tbh. I remember one day

within the last year or so I saw that all of the big releases at the
time had 90%+ and thought, that's outrageous.

permalink

rokon

[]CactaurJack 2 pontok 32 perce

Wait is has a 28% on RT!? The fuck!? I mean it's purposefully

confusing, you're supposed to empathize, it's the whole tone of the
movie. I loved Pandorum, I thought it was a great example of the
genre, that's undeserved.

permalink

rokon

[]gunt_master 4 pontok 2 rja

I just lost any respect for rotten tomatoes. Will not hold them to any
rating again.

permalink

rokon

[]Pomguo 2 pontok egy rja

It's more that aggregates are not reviews. They're just judgments
on what 'most critics' say. A niche film will therefore do badly,
whereas broad-appeal bread-and-butter stuff will overperform.
I mean, IMDB and metacritic aren't much different, either. That's
how broad-appeal stuff like Shawshank Redemption trumps much

better films (because what you think of as much better will depend
on taste, and taste does not come across as strongly in aggregates).

permalink

rokon

[]_hownowbrowncow_ 1 pont 2 rja

I never trust rotten tomatoes ratings. I honestly don't know how

they're even supposed to work bc they're so terribly off. IMDB is
about the only thing I find reliable

permalink

rokon

[]gnice3d 2 pontok egy rja

That's the other side of the same coin. Fanboys and tasteless tweens
will inflate a shit film into a mediocre score on IMDB... While RT
critic scores can bury a "solidly-fair" or "awesomely bad: film.
Weighed against each other, you have a good chance of weeding out
the garbage and spotting the surprises.

It makes me feel like maybe the original graphic novel is a smart

But I haven't read it. That's just how the film felt - like an incoherent

permalink

[]F54280 1 pont egy rja

Nope, the novel is a Belgium-style comics (i.e.: short, single issue,

around 100 pages -- can check is you want). Story is very linear
(hence the train concept), and probably less complex than the
movie. It think it is better too, but they had to add substance to
create the movie (when they announced it, I thought "no way they
can last 90 min with this"). Don't misread me: the graphic novel is a
old favorite of mine.
