QUESTION 3
(i)
Calculate the enthalpy change of 1 kg of water from ice at 0 oC to vapour at 120oC and 100 kPa.
The latent heat of fusion of ice, H f 335 J/(g oC) at 0oC and latent heat of vaporization of steam,

QUESTION 4
(i)
(ii)
In a vessel at 101.3 kN/m2 and 300 K, the percentage relative humidity of water vapour in the
air is 25. If the partial pressure of water vapour when air is saturated with vapour at 300 K is
3.6 kN/m2, calculate:
(a)
The partial pressure of the water vapour in the vessel
(b)
The specific volume of the air and water vapour
(c)
The humidity of the air and humid volume
(d)
The percentage humidity

QUESTION 5
(i)
Assume that the outside air temperature is 32C with a relative humidity = 60%. Use
the psychrometric chart to determine the specific humidity , the enthalpy h, the wetbulb temperature Twb , the dew-point temperature Tdp , and the specific volume of the
dry air v . Indicate all the values determined on the chart.

(ii)
Assume that the outside air temperature is 8C. If the air in a room is at 25C with a
relative humidity = 40%, use the psychrometric chart to determine if the windows of
that room which are in contact with the outside will become foggy.

(iii)
Hot dry air at 40C and 10% relative humidity passes through an evaporative cooler.
Water is added as the air passes through a series of wicks and the mixture exits at 27C.
Using the psychrometric chart determine: (a) The outlet relative humidity (b) The
amount of water added, and (c) The lowest temperature that could be realized.

QUESTION 6
(i)
What is the heat duty for a mixer that mixes 9.2 moles of H2O with 1 mole of 0.2 mole
fraction H2SO4 if the inlet and outlet streams are all to be at 25oC?
