Beat Report: SFSU Gator Pass

03-15-16
*Topic: General elections for the SFSU student body are around the corner. They will take place
on April 11-14. This election will also allow students to vote on the new transit pass for SFSU
students. The Muni Gator pass will include a free, or discounted pass for students. The Gator
pass fee will be added to SFSU students tuition fees. BART has also reached an agreement with
SFSU to provide at least a 25% discount for students, from Daly City station. SFSU is the first
university, and institution, that has reached an agreement with BART.
*Good Story: San Francisco State is a big commuter school. It is know for having students travel
in from different parts of the Bay Area. This is a great story because it gives insight into what
students really think about the proposed student pass. It brings to light any worries students have
about the pass, the cost, pros and cons. It also brings up any issues students might already have
with commuting to school, or around the city. The Gator pass might save some people money, or
might cost some other people money. There are advantages and disadvantages for all students. It
also informs the SFSU and SF community about the Gator Pass.

Two Sides: Although this new muni pass proposal may be beneficial for more than half of the
student body, not all need it. There are students who live around campus, who might not vote for,
or against the proposal. The new Gator pass might also present some issues for the larger SF
community.
