Fair play & Respect

in Footbal
Fair play is a fundamental part of the game of
football. It represents the positive benefits of playing by
the rules, using common sense and respecting fellow
players, referees, opponents and fans.
To give fair play more visibility, FIFA created a
programme that turned the generic notion into a simple
design and an easy-to-understand code of conduct that
must be recognised and respected by players and fans
alike. While fair play should apply in football throughout
the year, FIFA has, since 1997, dedicated one week of
its international match calendar every year to praising
and promoting the spirit of fair play. During these FIFA
Fair Play Days, FIFA calls on its member associations to
organise activities dedicated to fair play and to highlight
its importance both on and off the pitch.
Fair play is also acknowledged and rewarded at every
FIFA tournament. The Technical Study Group evaluates
and rates the behaviour on and off the pitch of all
participating teams in a FIFA competition. The FIFA Fair
Play Award is then conferred upon the team with the
best fair play score during the tournament.
The Annual FIFA Fair Play Award , presented at the FIFA

Ballon dOr gala, recognises special acts of fair play and

often goes to individuals or groups who otherwise enjoy
little share of the spotlight.
The UEFA Respect Fair Play table is based on club and
national team performances in UEFA competitions. The
rankings are based on criteria such as positive play,
respect for the opponent, respect for the referee,
behaviour of the crowd and team officials, as well as
cautions and dismissals.

Barcelona's player reacted with hummour to having a
banana thrown at him during the dramatic 3-2 win at
Villarreal by peeling it and then taking a bite.

After this event,he said:"We have suffered this in Spain

for some time. You have to take it with a dose of
humour,"
Barcelona wishes to express its complete support and
solidarity with Dani Alves following the insults he was
subject to," a club statement read.
Barcelona urges all clubs to continue fighting against the
blight on the game which any kind of aggression against
a sportsperson on the basis of their race represents.''

Respect
The FA and Foundations Respect barriers and
Respect packs (made up of captains armbands,
marshals bibs and Respect Signage) are available to
football leagues and clubs to ensure there is good
behaviour by players and parents alike in the grassroots
game, with money provided by The FA and vouchers
supplied by the Foundation.
Youth football in England is enormously popular. There
are over 55,000 teams and every weekend most players,
coaches and referees have an enjoyable experience of
the game. There are however occasions where instead
of being positive and supportive some spectators fail to
recognise that youth football is a time to learn the game
and instead are aggressive, sarcastic and disrespectful.
Some young players will imitate this adult behaviour
whilst others will fail to fulfil their potential or choose like some referees - to do something else with their time.
However the good news is that since the Respect
programme was launched in 2008 The FA has identified
a range of measures that tackle these raging touchline
parents, educate young players and contribute to the
positive and fun experience that we all want our children
to have.

Financial Fair-Play
UEFA is determined that its financial fair play
measures will bring greater stability to club football, and
end the financial indiscipline and excesses that have
marred the game and endangered the existence of many
clubs, and its values include a pledge to protect sporting
competition and the clubs themselves.
There is a commitment to good governance openness,
democracy, transparency and responsibility, with UEFA
defending the autonomy of sports structures. The
nurturing of football's grassroots, strengthening of
solidarity within the game, and preserving football's
identity and essential soul at all levels, are all important
aspects of the European body's work.
