most influential women. As managing
director of Singapore-based consulting
firm Business Breakthrough Technology Pty Ltd she manages
the operations and expansion of consulting initiatives and bluechip clientele in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Indonesia,
Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines.
She also regularly consults and coaches senior executives and

Sir John Monash was an Australian leader, statesman and nation-builder that
contributed toalmost every level of Australian life.
As well as a long and distinguished military career, Sir John was a renowned
engineer and public administrator. He also features on the Australian $100 note.
He was a man who used education to turn his natural talent into ability,
allowing him to realise his ambitions. Not only do we carry Sir Johns name,
we also take inspiration from his philosophy of life.
Although Monash University is named after an individual, the University is
apublic government-funded and accredited institution.
Our motto, Ancora Imparo I am still learning, captures the essence of his
approach to life.
Our research
tradition
Even before we became the global university we are today, our
researchers looked beyond traditional boundaries, creating new
frontiers and discovering new ways of approaching the fields in
which they worked. Its why a Monash education is respected
around the world. Things that we now take for granted would
not exist without the initial work of Monash researchers:

Professor Xinhua Wu and her team at the Monash Centre for Additive
Manufacturing (MCAM) are creating a new aluminium alloy that will
make aircraft 30 to 40 per cent lighter, twice as fuel efficient and still
structurally sound. So significant is this project that they are working
in close partnership with Microturbo, the European Space Agency
and Bombardier.
Super sand
Monash has teamed up with Rice University (USA) to create a
supersand which acts as an inexpensive filtration device in
third-world countries. They have significantly enhanced the natural
filtering properties of sand by coating it with a nanomaterial called
graphite oxide (GO). Lack of clean drinking water is the cause of
over2.5milliondeaths per year according to the WHO.
Eliminating disease
The Eliminate Dengue Program, led by Monash Universitys Professor
Scott ONeill, uses a naturally occurring bacteria (Wolbachia) to
reducethe ability of mosquitoes to pass dengue between people.
Dengue fever affects an estimated 390 million people worldwide
annually and is ranked by the World Health Organisation (WHO)
asthemost important mosquito-borne viral disease in the world.

The Master of Arts program is offered in art history and theory and
focuses on the contextual study of art and design practice. Students
explore the intellectual and historical context of art and design, posing
critical questions, forming value judgments and articulating their ideas
within an imaginative framework. You will be examined entirely on the
basis of the written paper, unlike the Master of Fine Art or Master of
Design, which focus on visual work. The thesis should be between
30,000 and 40,000 words.

This practice-based research degree involves you in the independent
investigation of a research problem that you have formulated. It is
expected that the research undertaken will make a contribution to the
discipline in which you are enrolled by applying, clarifying, critiquing or
interpreting that knowledge. The studio research project develops a
body of creative or visual works with accompanying written (exegesis)
and visual documentation. The written documentation is a commentary
that outlines the development of the project and its conclusion, and
provides a critical context within which the work may be viewed and
assessed. The original visual works produced and the exegetical text are
examined as one for Master of Fine Art candidates. Students must also
complete a sequence of two coursework units, which will guide them
through the documentary dimensions of their project.

Law
The Faculty of Law is recognised as one of the bestperforming law schools in the world. A law degree from
Monash gives you a world standard education and an

Why Monash Law?
Make a difference to social justice globally, nationally
and at home.
Master of Laws
Before commencing the Master of Laws at
Monash University, I completed a Bachelor
of Arts/Law (Hons) and then completed
postgraduate studies in Education. I have been
teaching VCE students Legal Studies and
Politics, and have now returned to complete
my Master of Laws. I have completed all of
my tertiary studies at Monash University and
feel comfortable and supported. The teaching
staff within Monash Law Faculty are very
approachable, and I have been fortunate to
have been taught by academics who are
recognised internationally as being experts
in their eld. Completing the Master of Laws
at Monash University is convenient, due to
its inner city location and the classes that run
outside working hours. The wide variety of
options at a postgraduate level allow you to tailor
your studies to areas of law in which you are
interested. I have been encouraged to explore
areas of law of specic interest to me when
completing assessment tasks, which ensures
that the course is engaging and somewhat
personalised. Monash Law Faculty has a strong
reputation, and I have found that employers and
the legal community highly regard a degree from
Monash Law Faculty.

thesis having a maximum word length of 50,000 words (For students
commencing their MPhil on 1 January 2015 onwards, the word count
for the MPhil should be 35,000).
The M.Phil thesis may be undertaken in any of the principle areas of
research within the faculty. It is particularly suited to students seeking

(CSPs)
For CSPs, units are grouped into three broad
bands. The band in which the unit is located
determines the student contribution amount
for that unit. Usually, the units a student is
required toenrol in to complete their course
will each fall into the same band. The table
outlines the annual student contribution
amount for a full-time student who is enrolled
in a standard full-time course where all units
are in the same band. Inastandard full-time
year, students typically study 48 credit points.
Research Training
