METHOD

Start-up .

3.

1.

The Cooling Water supply valve was turned on. The pipe elbow was
held at the same time as the valve is opened.

2.

The Main Switch on the unit turned on. The Compressor started and
at the same time the two internal lights will also illuminate. The
system allowed to run for a while.

By referring to diagram R633 Valve Positions, the respective valve was

opened as shown in the diagram under Normal Operation.
4.

the Water Flow Meter Control Valve on the Condenser unit was
opened in order to obtain 50 g/s flow rate. The system was allowed
to achieve stability 20 minutes. The Pressure at which the
Condenser stabilizes was depend upon the Water Inlet Temperature.
At the same time, the Water Flow Meter Control Valve on Evaporator
was reduced to 25 g/s.

5.

While waiting, please observe the reading for Gauge Pressure for
Condenser unit. Ensure that the reading DO NOT exceed 150 kN/m2.
The Flow meter for both Condenser and Evaporator was observed.

Experimental.
A.

To Determine The Overall Heat Transfer Between R141b And

Water In The Evaporator And Condenser.

1.

The unit as shown in the Start-up Procedures was started starting

from Step 1 until Step 3. The unit is Air was free by venting Air from
the Condenser. This was done by following Step 3 in Part A.

2.

Once Air is freed, the Condenser Cooling Water flow was increased to
mid range value, 25 g/s. The pressure at which the Condenser
stabilizes was depend upon the Water Inlet Temperature.

3.

Set the Evaporator Water flow to mid range value, 25 g/s. and allow
the unit to run for approximately between 15 to 20 minutes. The
time taken to stabilize will depend upon the local ambient conditions
and the Cooling Water Inlet Temperature.

4.

All the system parameters was recorded in the Data Sheet.

Refrigeration Unit And Generation Of A Refrigeration Cycle
Diagram On A Pressure Enthalpy Chart.
1. Water Flow Meter Control Valve was adjusted for Condenser for three
different flowrate. It is highly recommended that start with the
highest flowrate of 50 g/s before finally ends up with the lowest
flowrate of 10 g/s.Time taken from one reading to another reading is
between 10-15min
2. All the required readings was recorded in the provided Data Sheet.

Shutdown.
1.

Cooling Water Flow Rate was fully open for both Evaporator and
Condenser.

2.

The Refrigerant by opening the valve was pumped down at the base
of the Condenser. Refered to Diagram R633 that indicates valve
positions starting from Refrigerant Pump Down up to Shut Down.

3.

The Main Cooling Water supply was turned off.

4.

The Main Switch was turned off when once Normal Operating
conditions have been achieved..

5.

The Cooling Water Supply was turned off to the unit.

6.

Once the unit was turned off, then the ball valves on the unit should
be closed to mimic the shut down condition.
