Practical Training with Software

Fundamentals of Omega Seismic Processing System

This course will provide knowledge and understanding of the Omega software processing package from setting up a project through
use of the key applications. It will cover the applications used in day-to-day operations of a 3D seismic processing project. This will
include creation of a project and an overview of the tools used in managing data and resources.
A simple example project will be created and exercises will be used to illustrate the key applications. At the end of this class,
participants will have the necessary knowledge to be able to use the Omega Desktop applications to create a project and run a range
of workflows including data input and QC, data analysis and production processing.
This course, when taken in conjunction with the applicable practical processing class (Marine, Land, Multicomponent or OBC), will
enable the participant to undertake processing projects as member of a production processing team.

Agenda
Day 1
Introduction to Omega
Setting up a Project
Building Jobs
Creating the Global Parameter Database
An introduction to the Omega processing package will be given explaining the key aspects of the software. Participants will learn about
the structure of an Omega project and how to create and organize a basic project. The SeisFlow application will be used to build and
save basic flows. The Global Parameter Database will be introduced and explored.
Day 2
Saving and Submitting Jobs
Monitoring Jobs
Managing Data
Further use of SeisFlow will involve submitting and monitoring jobs. Participants will use StageJobsViewer to manage and monitor
their running jobs. Dataset Manager will be introduced to view datasets and metadata.
Day 3
Viewing Data
Job QC
Further Job Creation
Participants will learn how to view data in SeisView, including use of display parameters. SeisView has a range of interactive toolkits
which will be introduced for basic geophysical analysis. Further job QC will be covered along with further use of SeisFlow.
Day 4
Interactive Toolkits
TraceHeaderView
Job Triggering
Further use of SeisView will cover more of the interactive toolkits used in basic processing. TraceHeader View will be introduced as
part of the QC process. The triggering process will be used to show how Omega can be automated for greater efficiency.
Day 5
Attribute Creation and Viewing
Grids and Omega Utilities
Class Review

#2

The attribute capabilities of Omega will be investigated with the Multi-Attribute Display tool. The use of grids will be explained and the
Grid Utility application investigated. The class will round up with a review of the material covered and a chance to ask further questions.
