My words....

Here I present a few basic questions questions on HCF,LCM &

number system I wish that more people should become entrepreneurs.
An ordinary Indian entrepreneur wishes to remain an honest entrepreneur
and contribute to the development of nation but we have to strengthen those
institutions which truly promote entrepreneurship, not just degree granting
institutions. Let us work together to promote knowledge, wisdom, social
development and education. We believe in free education for all, free
support for all, entrepreneurship opportunities and training for all. Let us
work together for these goals. ... I alone cant do much, I need support of
perosns like you .......... ...

What is HCF & LCM ?

Highest Common Factor:(H.C.F) or Greatest Common

Meaure(G.C.M) :
The H.C.F of two or more than two numbers is the greatest
number that divides each of them exactly. For example, 12 is
HCF of 36 and 48.
Least common multiple[LCM] : The least number which is
divisible by each one of given numbers is LCM. Example :
12 is LCM of 3 and 4 (because 12 is divisible by 3 and 4
both and it is the smallest such number)

What are the methods to calculate
HCF & LCM?
Factorization method : Resolve each one into product
of prime factors. HCF denotes all those factors which
are found in each of these. LCM is product of highest
powers of all factors.
Common division method - Divide the larger number
by smaller one. Now divide the divisor by remainder.
Repeat the process of dividing preceding number last
obtained till zero is obtained as number. Thelast divisor
is HCF. Use this formula to know about the LCM :
HCF*LCM = Product of two numbers

The area of AFTERSCHOOOL'S room is 24 feet *
32 feet. What can be minimum number of square
tiles ?

Find HCF of 24 and 32

factors of 24 = 2*2*2*3
factors of 32 = 2*2*2*2*2
so HCF = 2*2*2 = 8
one side of tile will be 8
number of tiles : (24*32) / (8*8) = 12 tiles

Find least number which when
divided by 20,25,35,40 leaves
remainders 14,19,29,34.
Here you can see that each remainder is 6 less
than the divisor. So we have to calculate LCM
and then we will deduct 6 from the LCM
factors of 20 = 4*5, 25 = 5*5, 35=5*7,
40=4*2*5
LCM = 4*2*5*5*7 1400 deduct 6, =1394

The sum of two numbers is 216
and HCF is 27. what are the
numbers ?
The two numbers are : 27X and 27Y
27X+27Y = 216
divide each side by 27
X+Y = 8
X and Y must be : 5 * 3
the two numbers are : 135 and 81 answer

LCM of two numbers is 48..The
numbers are in ratio 2:3. The sum
of numbers is?
Let us assume that the numbers are : 2x and 3x
(where X is HCF of the two numbers)
list down factors of 48 :
2*2*2*2*3
here we can see that leaving apart 2 and 3, we
have 8 as other number. Let us take 8 as HCF.
The numbers are : 16 and 24. the sum of two
numbers is 40 answer

What is the least number which
when divided by 12,21 and 35
leaves remainder 6 in each case ?
Find LCM of 12, 21, 35
list down factors of these :
12 = 3*2*2
21 = 3*7
35 = 5*7
thus LCM = 2*2*3*5*7 = 420
add 6 to it, the answer = 426

What is the least number which
when divided by 12,21 and 35
leaves remainder 5, 14 and 28
respectively ?
We can see that in each case, the remainder is 7 less. So first find
LCM and then deduct 7 from that. list down factors of these :
12 = 3*2*2
21 = 3*7
35 = 5*7
thus LCM = 2*2*3*5*7 = 420
now deduct 7 from this. Answer = 413

What is the greatest number of 5
digits which is divisible by
12,14,18 and 20?
Step 1 : Find LCM
factors of 12 : 3*2*2
factors of 14 : 2*7
factors of 18 : 3* 3*2
factors of 20 : 5*2*2
LCM= 2*2*3*3*5*7 = 1260
now divide 99999 by 1260 we get remainder of 459. this number
must be deducted from 99999. we get 99540. answer

Which is the largest number which divides
1023, 1221, 1323 and 1500 leaving same
remainder in each case ?

Find difference of these numbers :

(1221-1023) = 198
(1323-1221) = 102
(1500-1323) = 177
now find HCF of these numbers :
divide 198 by 177, we get : 21, divide 177 by 21, we get 9
divide 21 by 9 we get 3 as the last remainder. Thus 3 is
the HCF of all these 3 digits so our answer is also 3.

Which is the largest number which divides
77,147 and 252 leaving same remainder in
each case ?

Find difference of these numbers :

(147-77) = 70
(252-147) =105
now find HCF of these numbers :
divide 105 by 70, we get : 35, divide70 by 35, we get 0 as
remainder. So HCF is 35. This is the answer

two numbers is 1558. what is the minimum
possible other number if HCF is 38 ?
Find the factors of 98154 :
=2*3*3*7*19*41
now find factors of 1558
=2*19*41
remaining factors are : (3,3,7), but have to take factors of HCF
also (2,19), so other number must be :

How many prime numbers are
there between 10 and 90 ?
A natural number larger than unity is a prime number if it
does not have other divisors except for itself and unity.
1 is not a prime number. The lowest prime number is 2. 2 is also the
only even prime number. The lowest odd prime number is 3.
->The remainder when a prime number p>=5 is divided by 6 is 1 or
5.However, if a number on being divided by 6 gives a remainder 1 or
5 it need not always be prime number.
Prime numbers between 10 and 90 : 11,13,17,19,23,29,
31,37,41,47,53,61,67,71,79,89 total : 16

A number being successively divided by 3,5,8
leaves remainders 1,4,7
respectively. Find the respective remainders if the
order of divisors are reversed?

Start reverse order. Add 7 to 8 / 16 / 24 / 32 , we get

15 / 23 / 31 / 39. Let us take 15 (we can take any
value, answer will be the same) and multiply it by 5
and add 4 we get 79. Now we multiply it by 3 and add
1. we get : 237+1 = 238. Now use reverse order : we
get 29 and remainder 6 when we divide by 8 and get 5
and remainder 4 when we divide by 5 and 1 and
remainder 2 when we divide by 3.
