This brochure represents the most current state and local information available as of the spring 2010 printing and may change without
notice. Graduation requirements beyond those listed as the state minimum will differ for students who entered 9TH grade prior to 2008-09
and in our magnet high schools. Therefore, students and parents are encouraged to meet with counselors and school administrators to
receive the most updated information.

LOUISIANA EARLY START


(formerly known as Dual Enrollment)

High school credit for college courses may be awarded to students who
pass college courses. Students must have prior permission of the
principal to take the college classes, and they must meet the
entrance requirements of the college or university. Grades earned at
the college level are recorded on the high school transcript as Pass or
Fail. Students may not take a course on a college or university campus
that is offered on their own high school campus. A course consisting of
at least two college hours shall be counted as no more than one unit of
credit toward high school graduation. College courses shall be counted
as high school subjects for students to meet eligibility requirements to
participate in extra-curricular activities governed by voluntary state
organizations. College courses taken on the high school campus will be
treated as a dual enrollment course and taught by a JPPSS teacher.
Students will receive a letter grade on their transcript.

ACT 1124 - CAREER OPTIONS LAW

Act 1124, the Career Options Law, requires 6 career awareness


activities for students in grades 6-8 and it requires completion of
an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) (formerly 5-Year Plan) at
the end of the 8th grade. All high school students are encouraged
to complete four primary units and two related units in an area of
concentration (major).
