4. WORKSTATIONS MANAGER
4 Workstations Manager
The Workstations Manager allows an easy management of the workstations from where it will be
possible to run the MP.
Each installed MP in a workstation or client needs a license to run. The MP can be run in as many
workstations or clients as licenses acquired.
For example, if you purchase five licenses of the MP, the program will be available in five different
workstations. When you try to run the MP in a sixth workstation, the same program will deny the
access to these workstation, even if the other five workstations are not being used at that moment,
due to the SENTINEL HASP key has already linked the five acquired licenses with the previous five
workstations used.
If you want to run the MP program from a workstation that do not have an available license, you
have two options:
Removing workstations
To remove a workstation on the Workstations Manager, follow these steps:
1.
From the Start > Programs > MPsoftware menu, execute the Workstations Manager.
22
4 Workstations Manager
* To display the detailed information about your available keys, browse http://localhost:1947 and
click Sentinel Keys.
3. Choose the
Delete option.
4. Once changes have
been made, click the Save
Information button in order
for them to be applied.
5. MP UPDATE SERVICE
5 MP Update Service
The MP Update Service is a standalone program that connects to Internet and automatically
downloads the latest versions of the programs for all the languages available.
With the computer turned on and this service enabled, all the available updates are seamlessly
downloaded from the Internet into a shared folder on the local network. Then, all the workstations
with any MP application installed will search the downloaded updates on the same folder and
those will be installed on each one of the Workstations without the need of being collectively and
individually logged on to the Internet.
This process dramatically streamlines the program update, since the Internet download is
performed just once for all the workstations.
There are multiple approaches on how to install this service.
A.
Equipment with single-user MP and Internet connection. The MP update service is installed
directly to the same computer where the MP is installed (see Single user installation). The
MP takes the downloaded updates directly from this same computer)
B.
24
5 MP Update Service
C.
Server with network MP and Internet connection. The MP updates service is installed
directly in the same server where the MP network version is installed (see Server
Installation). The MPs installed in the workstations take the downloaded updates directly
from the server.
D.
Server with network MP and no Internet connection. The MP update service is installed in
any other computer or server that has internet connection and plugged to the same local
network. The installed MPs in the workstations take the downloaded updates from the
other computer or server connected to the same local network.
INSTALLATION
The MP Update Service is installed automatically when you install the MP, Spare Parts Inventory
and/or Tools Control programs for the first time. This happens when the single-user version is
installed or when the network version on a server is installed (see diagrams A and C).
NOTE! The computer where you install the service can be the same computer where you have
installed the MP single-user version, server or any other computer connected to the network.
5 MP Update Service 25
The steps to be followed for the installation are virtually the same in all instances:
First. The service installation shall be performed on a computer with Internet connection. (Refer
to Installing the Service).
Second. Set up the Support Center on each Workstation where any MP application is installed
(refer to Setting Up the Support Center later in this chapter) (p.27).
NOTE! The link for downloading the installation package of the MP version 9 was sent to you
previously for e-mail, if you do not have this e-mail at this moment, you can download the
installation file from our downloads webpage selecting the edition of the program related to your
purchase. http://support.mpsoftwarecmms.com/mp_descargas.html

2.
Click the MP Install button, select Server option and follow the on-screen instructions.
3.
In the screen where you can choose from to make a complete installation of all programs or
perform a custom installation, select the Custom option.
4.
Uncheck all the options and select only the option Update Service. Continue the
installation.
5.
Once the MP Update Service is installed, an icon will be added to the taskbar of Windows.
Open the service double clicking the MP Update Service icon. The following screen will be
displayed.
5 MP Update Service 27
6.
Write down the location of the update folder displayed at the bottom of the window. This
folder is where the updates will be downloaded to from the Internet (e.g.
C:\MPsoftSv\Updates). This folder will be later located from each one of the Workstations
when setting up the Support Center. If you would like to choose another folder, you may do
so under the Settings Options.
NOTE! The folder where the updates shall be downloaded to from the Internet should be shared
by all MP users.
Simply installing the MP Update Service does not mean that the applications will be automatically
updated on the clients or Workstations. You must set up the Support Center, as described below,
in order for the Workstations to take the latest downloads and install them on all clients.
From the Start > Programs > MPsoftware menu, execute the Support Center.
2.
3.
Search and choose the same folder where the updates will be downloaded to from the
Internet through the MP Update Service (refer to Installing the Service before in this same
chapter) (p. 25).
Locally on the company network (Intranet). The service is locally installed on any computer
in the network. The Intranet is a computer network within a private, corporate, or
educational Local Area Network (LAN) providing Internet tools.
On the company Internet server. If the company has an Internet domain name (e.g.
www.mycompany.com), this service can be installed by using the Microsoft IIS (Internet
Information Services) on the company Internet server. This installation process shall be
monitored by the Systems staff or by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Once a maintenance request has been reported, it shall be managed by another MP module
called Request Manager. In this module, the administrator keeps track of all the requests reported
by the users and can even forward them to the MP program from which a work order can be
generated.
2.
Select the Request Service option and follow the on-screen instructions.
30
Once installed, the Request Service will be displayed on the next screen.
4.
Make sure that the service status is Initiated. If not, click the Install button.
5.
Write down the link displayed on the window (e.g. http://ws-pablo:8081). This link shall be
typed later on your Internet browser to access the service.
To learn more about how to use this service, refer to Requests via Internet/Intranet on the video
course.
From the Start > Programs > MPsoftware > Maintenance Requests, execute the Requests
Manager.
2.
When accessing the Requests Manager for the first time, the program will prompt you to
specify the location of the Requests.mdb database. You may modify these settings later, if
desired, from the Tools-> Connection Settings option.
4.
Search for the Requests.mdb file under the BasesMDB sub-folder on the computer where
you installed the service to report maintenance requests.

local and/or remote connectors. If you have a firewall installed, please be sure that this port is not
blocked.
The HASP HL Net key can be inserted in any network computer that has the Windows operating
system installed. That computer does not necessarily have to be the network server or the same
computer where the network administrator had installed the MPsoftware programs.
The computer where the HASP HL Net key shall be installed should always be turned on, so that
the network-connected Workstations may have access to the key at all times.
Paste the folder WebService in the main directory of your website. The folder path is
C:\CD_MP9\Req\WebService, (where C:\ is the drive where was decompressed the MP
version 9 install package.)
2.
3.
