BASHMENT SOCA 2016 COMPETITION RULES


In The following Rules and any amendments hereto (except as otherwise
expressly provided or unless the context requires) the singular includes the
plural and vice versa, the masculine includes the feminine and vice versa

1.

THE NAME OF THE COMPETITION


a. The name of the competition shall be the Bashment Soca Competition
which comprises the Semifinalists selection stage, The Public Voting and
the Final stages
b. The Bashment Soca Competition (hereinafter referred to as the
Competition) is organized and administered by 4D Entertainment Inc. (4D
Ent.)

2.

ELIGIBILITY
a. Each artiste must be 18 years or older at the date of Registration indicated
in 3 (a)

3.

REGISTRATION
a. An artiste (hereinafter referred to as artiste) must register for
participation in the 2016 Bashment Soca Competition by completing the
4D Ent. Approved Registration Form in duplicate. Registration Forms shall
be accompanied by two (2) facial photographs of the artiste/s (against a
plain white background, in printed format) and shall reach the Caribbean
Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) no later than 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday,
June 1, 2016.
b. An artiste may also be registered by his duly appointed representative,
provided that the artiste complies with all the other requirements set out at
3 (a) above
c. The duplicates of all Registration Forms received will be stamped
immediately on receipt indicating the date and time the Registration Form
was received by the CBC and returned to the artiste or his authorized
representative
d. Artistes whose Registration Forms have not been received by the CBC by
the deadline indicated at 3 (a) above shall not be eligible for participation
at the Selection stage of the Competition
e. The song performed in the Competition must be original, must not have
been entered in any previous organized competitions in Barbados nor in
the Sweet Soca or Party Monarch competitions for 2016 or before nor
have been previously released.
f. The penalty for violation of Rule 3(e) shall be disqualification of the song
from the competition
g. A MP3 copy of the recording of the song to be entered into the selection
process for the competition shall be submitted along with the Registration
Form to CBC no later than 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2016

4.

ADJUDICATION
a. A panel of judges shall be selected for the adjudication of all stages of the
Competition
b. 4D Ent. Shall determine the composition of the panel of judges and shall
appoint a member of the panel to the Chief Judge
c. The Competition shall be judged in three (3) stages Stage1: Semifinalists
Selections, Stage 2: Public Voting and Stage3: Finals

STIPULATIONS
a. If the song performed at the Finals contains lyrics other than those
previously approved by 4D Ent., the artiste may be disqualified from the
competition, if it is shown that the song is not in good taste or may be in
breach of any relevant law
b. Whenever 4D Ent. has informed an artiste in writing that his lyrics in full or
in part are defamatory and should be replaced with suitable lyrics
according to the rules of the competition, and the artiste wilfully performs
the offending lyrics or a variation that is substantially similar during any
judging stage of the competition, then the artiste may be banned from 4D
Ent. produced competitions for a period not in excess of five (5) years
c. At the Finals, an artiste shall be held accountable for the actions of those
individuals whom he brings on stage during the competition, including
supporting acts for his performance
d. If, during the Finals, an artiste or any of his supporting acts makes any
gesture or action that exceeds the bounds of good taste, the song may be
disqualified from the Competition

THE BANDS
a. Stems may be utilized at the Finals stage

7. THE SELECTIONS STAGE


a. Judging at the Selections stage will take place in two (2) phases, with the
judging panel making the initial selections of artistes from the submitted
MP3 Recordings using the following criteria:

Lyrics
Arrangements
Vocal Performance

a maximum of 40 points
a maximum of 20 points
a maximum of 20 points
a maximum of 20 points

b. A maximum of twelve (12) artistes will be selected for the 1st phase of the
Selections stage of the Competition.
c. The twelve (12) songs chosen shall be promoted via radio and social
media and a panel of judges in association with the voting public shall
determine the first six (6) finalists to go forward to the Finals stage of the
competition i.e. Six (6) to be chosen from the twelve (12) selected.
Thereafter one (1) additional artiste (the Wildcard) shall be chosen, by
public vote only, from the remaining six (6) who were not chosen to qualify
for the finals. That artiste will be the seventh (7) to go forward to the
Finals.
8. THE FINALS
a. The artistes at the Final stage of the competition (hereinafter referred to as
the Finalists) shall comprise the artistes, publicly announced to compete
at the Final Stage after the completion of the entire Selections stage for
the seven (7) Finalists.
b. The Finalists or their duly appointed representatives shall assemble at the
CBCs Headquarters, The Pine, St. Michael on the date and time indicated
by 4D Ent. to participate in a draw to determine the position in which they
will appear at the Finals stage
c. The Finalists or their duly appointed representatives shall present to 4D
Ent.s designated officer, on a date and time indicated by 4D Ent., two (2)
copies of the lyrics to be vetted by 4D Ent.s and one (1) full set of musical
scores for the song which they will perform at the Finals stage.

d. Upon receipt of the lyrics and musical scores of the song to be performed
at the Final, 4D Ent. shall present each Finalist with an unsigned
performance contract to perform at the Finals. The Finalists shall sign and
return the contracts to the designated 4D Ent. officer as required within
forty-eight (48) hours of receipt. A Finalist shall not be allowed to compete
if he fails to return the signed contract to the designated 4D Ent. officer as
required
e. 4D Ent. will vet each of the seven (7) songs submitted and return those
with lyrics considered to be defamatory or beyond the bounds of good
taste to Finalists within forty-eight (48) hours
f. Where lyrics are considered defamatory or beyond the bounds of good
taste, the relevant Finalist shall be required to re-submit amended lyrics
within twenty-four (24) hours of receipt. Until this process is completed,
the Finalist may not be allowed to participate in rehearsals for the Finals
nor may the performance contract be executed by 4D Ent.
g. The content of the presentation will be at the discretion of the artiste. At
the Final stage of the Competition, however such artiste shall be limited to
ten (10) supporting persons as part of his presentation, excluding the band
augmentation of a maximum of six (6) persons including musicians and
back-up vocals, and four (4) production/technical persons.
h. Should an artiste fail to observe Rule 8(h) a designated 4D Ent., officer
shall inform the Chief Judge of the breach immediately after his
performance has ended

The artiste shall appear and perform in the correct position as drawn at
the CBCs Headquarters. An artiste failing to comply with this rule shall
perform in the position determined by 4D Ent.

j.

In the Final stage of the Competition, the points system to be used by the
panel for judging will be as follows:
Rhythm and Beat
a maximum of 30 points
Lyrics
a maximum of 10 points
Vocal Performance
a maximum of 20 points
Crowd Response
a maximum of 30 points
Presentation
a maximum of 10 points

k. The Crowd response shall be judged using a noise meter which will be
recorded twice, once during the performance and at the end of the
performance
l.

At the Final stage of the Competition, artistes who are sponsored shall
ensure that their sponsors products or services do not clash with those of
the sponsors of the Competition. Each artiste shall further ensure that he
bears no signage on his person or on stage that refers to products or
services which compete with those of the Competitions sponsors

m. Individuals under the age of eighteen (18) years shall not be allowed to
accompany an artiste backstage nor onstage at the Finals of the
Competition

9. GENERAL
a. 4d Ent. Reserves the right to choose the venue for the staging of the
Finals of the Competition
b. Artistes shall report to 4D Ent. Stage Manager at the venue selected by
4D Ent. for the staging of the Finals no later than one (1) hour before the
scheduled start time of the event

c. Each performance at the Finals stages of the Competition shall not


exceed five (5) minutes duration and will be timed by the official timekeeper from the commencement of the first musical note played by the
band or the first vocal note performed by the artiste or the back-up
vocalists; and end at the last musical note played by the band or the last
vocal note performed by the artiste or the back-up vocalists
d. Failure by any artiste to comply with the reasonable instructions of the
designated 4D Ent. officer may result in his disqualification from the
Competition
e. Each artiste participating in the Finals of the Competition shall be issued
with an appropriate pass by 4D Ent. to facilitate entry to the event and to
the backstage area. Artistes not displaying the correct passes shall not be
allowed access backstage
f. All artistes performing in the Final of the Bashment Soca Competition will
receive an appearance fee of $500 except the winner of the competition
who will win the grand prize. No other prizes will be issued.

10. PROMOTION
a. The artiste agrees that should he be selected and then be a Finalist in the
Competition, 4D Ent. shall be entitled to use his performance or part
thereof or his image or likeness in the promotion of the Competition
generally in subsequent years

11. WINNER OBLIGATIONS


a. At the time of winning, the prize becomes the immediate responsibility of
the winner in the Winner Takes All Competition Finals. The prize vehicle
becomes the immediate responsibility of the winner and as such must be
removed from the dealers showroom within one week of the official prize
presentation
b. Any Prizes given and collected on the night of the Finals of the
Competition are the only prizes to be given and are the sole property of
the winner. The Winner is expected to allow himself to be photographed
at the time of the handing over of the winners prizes.
c. The winner at the time of winning the Bashment Soca Competition is
obligated to enter into negotiations with the sponsor of the vehicle
regarding the use of his image and/or likeness in the promotion of their
brand
d. The Winner will be expected to perform at the Soca on de Hill Event on
Sunday July 17th, 2016 and at the Soca Royale Event at Bushy Park on
Sunday July 24th, 2016.
