Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third book to the Harry
Potter series by best-selling British writer Joanne Kathleen Rowling. The
renowned series, appealing to both under and above legal ageyoung and
old, features a teenage boy named Harry who grows up in a normal world
with his despicable uncle, aunt and cousin at 4 Privet Drive. When he is
eleven years old, he discovers that he is a wizard and attends a magical
academy called Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry, where the ever
wise, Albus Dumbledore is the headmaster. At Hogwarts, Harry discovers his
past, involving his deceased parents and a dark wizard and attempts to
destroy him once and for all.
During Harrys third year at Hogwarts, he, yet again, reenters a whole
new adventure with his two best friends and the mystery of the break out at
Azkaban, a highly-guarded prison. Now, the on-the-run prisoner allegedly
runs after Harry himself to kill him which sends Hogwarts into Catch-22.
The extensively-read book, like the seven others, was made a movie
adaptation, directed by Alfonso Cuarn, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures,
and starred

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley),

Emma

(Hermione

Watson

Dumbledore).

The movie created various impressions from the avid-readers of the

series after citing a couple of glitches due to the changes in some of the
scenes. The following are some of the examples:
In the book, shortly after the Quidditch match, Harry took his broom
(Nimbus 200, which was destroyed after the attack of the dementor) and
Professor McGonagall kept the new broom (a Firebolt, from Sirius Black) to
have it tested; in the movie, he gets his broom and ride of, on it, into the
sunset.
The Fidelis Charm, magical protection charm, which was described in
detail in the book was left out of the movie; the Hogsmeade trips were only
made once in the movie, whereas, it was twice in the book. Also at
Hogsmeade, Ron was bullied by Draco and Harry, who was then invisible,
mortaring him with mud. Harrys cloak slips and revealed him hiding in it,
and in order not to get him expelled went back to the castle hurriedly where
he meets Professor Snape but was fortunately rescued by Professor Lupin.
However, in the movie, it was winter and Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle are
bullying Harry, Ron and Hermione throwing snowballs on them. Leter that
evening, while Harry is wandering the castle grounds, he is caught by Snape,
but was saved by Lupin.
In the book, Harry gets his copy of the Monster book of monsters from
Hagrid, by owl post, along with the newspaper clipping of the Weasleys in
Egypt during the holidays which includes Scabbers, birthday cards and the

sneakoscope, from the twins, Fred and George. He is, then, free to roam
Diagon Alley to get other books. However, in the movie, Fudge, from the
Ministry of Magic, organized his book list at the Leaky Cauldron.
Using the time-turner giver to Hermione by Professor McGonagall to
return back in time, Harry and Hermione are extremely careful not to interact
with their past selves, yet in the movie Hermione throws rocks at the past
Harry and Hermione, and she makes a comment about her hair.
In the movie, Hermione slaps Draco when she is on her way to Hagrids
hut with Harry and Ron, however, in the book this scene occurs when the
three of them is on their way back to the Castle with Hagrid after a Care of
Magical Creatures lesson.
Professor Snape treats Harry to a tirade about how Harrys father was a
troublemaker at school, but this scene is not featured in the movie. Also,
prediction happens at the end of Harrys Divination final in the book,
whereas, in the movie, Professor Trelawney, after the Divination class, makes
her real prediction when Harry is returning a crystal ball.
In the movie, Hermione never mentions her suspicions about the
Firebolt that Harry received, which she did in the book. Another, the movie
completely omits the friendship between Sirius and Crookshanks. And in the
movi two meals combine into one large one. In the book, Aunt Marge breaks
a glass at a different meal than the one when Harry blows her up.

The anticipated romantic attraction between Rons brother Percy and

Penelope Clearwater is omitted, completely, in the movie. Also, in the book,
Draco and friends wear robes that resemble the Dementors to spook Harry
before the Ravenclaw-Gryffindor Quidditch match and are caught and given
a detention by Professor McGonagall. Yet in the movie, Draco and friends don
robes to spook Harry elsewhere in Hogwarts and are not caught.
There were also altered quotes, which created difference in the story.
In the book, Snape calls Hermione an insufferable no-it-all, where
Ron defends Hermione, yet in the movie Ron agrees with Snapes comment.
Another is, Draco does not refer to Buckbeak as that bloody chicken in the
book and Draco threaten to get even with that jumped-up mudblood when
Hermione punches him only in the movie.
Dumbledore does not pretend as though he had no idea what
happened when Hermione and Harry return from the time-turner trip in the
book, however he does in the movie. In the movie, Sirius mentions the
lifespan of rats in the Shrieking Shack. In the book, Ron asks what special
powers Scabbers has in a pet shop and is told that Scabbers is a normal
garden rat and would live for three years.
To add-on there were a lot more this that were distinctly different that
of the book with that of the movie, examples are: the Marauders, the Magical
Classes, the scenes at the Dursleys, the Quidditch tournament/game,
shipping and romantic relationships, and some film additions, which include

the Shrunken Heads and the Hogwarts Choir, which obviously was not
mentioned in the book.
So much for that, J.K. Rowling invites you enter the magical world of
Harry Potter, and see for yourself what Muggles cannot. So long, witches and
wizards. Do as what the Marauders do. Mischief managed.
