Last April, the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) offered me a 4-year scholarship.

See
the letters attached to the updates.
I was excited but also concerned. Excited, because it has always been my dream to
pursue music at one of the top conservatories in the United States. And, I would be
studying under the guidance of Ms. Joan Kwuon, a renowned violinist. Concerned,
because the offer is not for a full scholarship and would, therefore, require financing that
I cannot afford.
In addition, there is the element of time. I would need a student visa to study at CIM and
I should be able to show documented proof of funding by July 15, 2016.
Tuition at the Cleveland Institute of Music is $47,200 a year. Room and Board for the
year is $14,382. The current scholarship grant is $26,000 for this year, if my grades at
the end of each year deserve continuation of the grant.
I would need around $35,000 a year to cover the difference between actual cost and the
grant. Whether or not my grades at the end of each year would justify continuation of
the scholarship does not faze me. I am confident that my love of music will correlate
directly with my academic performance. But finding $35,000 a year for 4 years does
faze me a lot. This is why I opened this fundraising campaign.
I am asking for your help so I should tell you about myself.
I am 20 years old. I attended the Philippine High School for the Arts, a secondary school
that gives full scholarships to artistically gifted children and adolescents. I have just
graduated from the University of the Philippines with a Bachelor of Science degree,
major in Statistics. I come from a family of mathematicians who also love music.
I began my personal journey into the world of music at the age of 6. My older brother
played the violin and I wanted to be like him. Unfortunately, our parents could not afford
to buy another violin, or send two kids for violin lessons. A year later, I finally got my own
violin and the opportunity to take lessons. I have not stopped playing the instrument
since then.
Following are some of my small achievements:
2011 - 2nd Place in the Philippine National Competition for Young Artists
2013 - First Concert Master of the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth
2014 - 3rd Place in the Euro-Asia International Competition in Malaysia
2015 - Awarded full scholarship to participate in the Alpenkammer Musik Festival in
Austria.

2016 - One of 5 winners in VSA International Competition chosen from about a hundred
other applicants. Performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in
Washington DC on May 27, 2016
VSA stands for Very Special Arts. It is a competition for musicians with disabilities, ages
14-25. I have epilepsy, from the age of 10, but I have never let this disability hinder my
passion for music.
I will be forever grateful for any financial help, large or small, that you can spare for me.
