With that in mind, I would like to share with you some
facts about the most common form of dementia.

For some of us the disease goes beyond the facts and figures. It is
personal. I lost my mother and my grandfather to the disease. At
Christ Church at least four members have experienced some form of dementia.

Alzheimers is a progressive disease that compromises all cognitive functions as the brain shrinks. Not
only do people forget who their family members are, they often forget who they are. The last couple
of years of her life, my mother had no recollection of ever being a mother. In order to communicate
with her, I had to switch from calling her Mom, to calling her Eileen. It was the only name she had
known all her life.
Although the disease has the potential to bankrupt our healthcare system, there is still little that the
average person knows about the disease. To help remedy that, I will place some literature in the

parish hall and encourage you to read it yourself and share it with anyone you think might be

Until we find a cure for this disease, we need to find new ways to minister to each other with
compassion and new ways to allow those with a diagnosis to teach us how to live as more faithful
disciples.

Jim and Barbara Featherstonhaugh will be having our cemetery
restored this summer. In the process of investigating the repair of
his father's headstone, Jim decided to have everything put to
rights. This is something which has needed to be addressed for
quite some time. It is a blessing to have the project taken on by
the Featherstonhaugh family.

ANNUAL CHURCH PICNIC

The Annual Church Picnic will be held on Sunday, June 26, immediately after Mass at the Van
Patten Mill Park (off Depot
Road in Duanesburg).
The Vestry will provide
hamburgers, hotdogs,
condiments, paper goods,
plastic forks and knives. There
are several picnic tables at
the park. Bring a dish to pass
as well as any drinks, ice, and
chairs you might want!
We hope to see you there
feel free to bring a friend.

JUNE THAT MARVELOUS MAGICAL MONTH

une is that month of traditional weddings and

graduations. In each case, life is full of
expectations and dreams. Unlike night dreams
which can be good, indifferent or bad nightmares, the
dreams of daydreamers are controlled, rose-colored
or idealistic. There is nothing wrong with daydreams,
however, as it is simply a form of hope and trust in
God.
In the Collins Gem Dictionary of The Holy Bible:
Dream. Even in the modern world there is a pseudoscience of dream interpretation. In scripture there is a
sense of something more than a heavy supper
causing dreams, and since God is the prime cause of
everything, dreams must be a form of communication
between God and man, conveying messages of
encouragement or warning (Judges 7,13; Matthew
27,19). Mosaic law, whilst accepting the divine origin
of dreams was not always ready to accept the
dreamer's word that his dream had been as he
revealed it (Deut. 13:1-5) See Vision.
Vision. It could be said that the dream is what is seen,
and that the vision is the addition of significance to
what is seen. They believed that it was a means of
communication between God and man; and this is
particularly true of the visions of the prophets. But
clearly their visions were exceptional simply because
the prophets were exceptional men.
God came to many in dreams throughout the
scriptures. Dreams are mentioned numerous times in
The Holy Bible. Two immediately came to my mind

Jacob's dream of a ladder to Heaven; and Joseph (of

the Coat of Many Colors fame) and his prophetic
dreams and dream interpretations for Pharaoh. Other
dreamers were Solomon, Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar, to
name a few. In the New Testament (in Matthew) when
Joseph had doubts about Mary, he had a dream and
an angel appeared to tell him her child was
conceived of the Holy Spirit. After the birth of Jesus,
the wise men were warned in a dream not to return to
Herod. Joseph also was warned in a dream to flee to
Egypt with the child Jesus and His mother. After the
death of Herod, Joseph again had a dream which
sent the little family and young Jesus to Nazareth in
the province of Galilee.
Among our modern dreamers was Martin Luther King,
Jr. who had high hopes for his race and trust in God for
peace as he made his famous speech I have a
dream. Certainly Mother Teresa lived a life of
dedicated dreams of helping the oppressed, the poor,
the hungry and spreading the Word of God.
Dream on....Dream on, my friends. Dare to dream
highest hopes and aspirations. Love the Lord with all
your heart, keep His commandments and never ever
lose your hope, faith and trust in God.

BROTHERS

have read a delightful book entitled How The Light

Gets In (the title echoes a line from a song
Anthem by Leonard Cohen). The book is written
with humor and compassion by Brian E. Pearson, who
is Canadian, a writer and a musician. He also happens
to be a priest who has served congregations in and
around Toronto. His book contains a collection of short
stories about these people he has known in church life
and about clergy experiences. His people are
charming, tragic, humorous or eccentric but all are
human. Some of his stores have been used in his
sermons. Subject matter is varied and they project
profound messages and lessons just as varied. One of
his stories is about two brothers. Sound familiar?
There are stories in the Bible about brothers. We will
begin at the beginning with the story of Cain and
Abel. This dealt with jealousy and has a tragic ending

of death by murder. The Bible also contains the story of

Jacob and Esau, twin brothers of Isaac and Rebekah.
Esau was first born with Jacob following on his heels.
Isaac loved Esau and Rebekah loved Jacob. One day
Esau, who was faint with hunger, sold his birthright to
his younger twin for the sake of food and drink. When
Isaac was old and his eyes dim, Jacob, urged by his
mother, tricked his father into giving him his blessing
meant for Esau. After many years, when Esau found
Jacob, they were reconciled.
Father Pearsons story is of two brothers who were very
close. The younger brother followed in his big brothers
shadow, even after both were married, until a quarrel
led to an estrangement. A path through the woods
that connected their two homes became overgrown

during their years of separation. It was not until the
younger brother was suffering from cancer that their
true love for one another broke the barrier. There was
a reconciliation and more importantly, forgiveness.
After his brothers death, the older brother cleared the
path trough the woods again so the families of the two
brothers could share in their love and forgiveness.
Like the brothers, we as Christians, receive the gift of
reconciliation and forgiveness and also have a death
to remember, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who

died for our sins. But more importantly, God raised Him
from the dead. We receive that gift of forgiveness in
the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in the bread and
wine of The Holy Eucharist. Like the older brother, may
we also open a path for others to share with us our
gifts of reconciliation, forgiveness and Gods
everlasting Love You are all always in my prayers.

WHAT I LEARNED FROM MY MOTHER

Mother's can leave a wonderful imprint on the lives of their children. Their lives, their actions speak volumes.
Moments with mothers often become the foundation of memories that in turn become stories which are shared
with the family for years to come. Below are memories and lessons learned from our mothers provided by the
members of Christ Church of all ages.

Some of my fondest memories and lessons I learned

from my mother was about volunteering. Whatever my

brother and I were involved in, she was as well. She was
a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, Assistant Troop
Leader for my Brownie and Girl Scout Troops though
she drew the line at camping, she became a bowling
coach when I entered the Rolling Greens Junior
Bowling program and continued on long after I had
aged out of the program due to her passion for the
game. She served in a number of capacities in
organizations she belonged too as well. She was very
active in the Bradt Elementary School PTA. The
entrance to the school was at the end of our street.
When we were playing kick ball in the road someone
would usually just yell Car! to get us out of the road.
On PTA meeting nights however one of the kids would
yell Outta of the road! Here comes Mrs. Beachs
PTA!

My mother taught me to finish brushing my teeth by

brushing my tongue

her nose in a good book. I came from a large family

but she tried to find time alone with each of us daily.
She was a beautiful, intelligent woman who devoted
her life to her family and I miss her every day.

My mother taught me how to hug.

My mother taught me dont give up your nice ways

be positive.

My mom was able to show through words, actions,

emotions, support and unconditional love that I was

accepted and loved every day of my life, through ups
and downs, good and bad, heartache and sorrow,
happiness and joy.

My mother taught my brothers and sisters many bible

songs.

My mother taught me about no thank you helpings at

supper time.

My mother taught me about love, compassion and to

help others.

My mother said if you watched your pennies, the

dollars would take care of themselves. Therefore we

grew up with napkins which my mother was
convinced made the difference!

Never wear your heart on your sleeve.

Be kind and dont hurt peoples feelings.

Speak when you are asked too, not when someone

else is speaking.

If you dont have anything good to say, dont say

anything at all.

You get more bees with honey than vinegar. In other

words you get more by being nice than nasty.

My mother taught me patience.

I learned the love of reading. She could sit for hours,

Some memories of my mom are that of a sweet and

loving woman who stood for family, togetherness and

helping others. She had no formal education but held
a wealth of knowledge in the important things of life.
She would even pick up hitchhikers because they
needed help. She made sure I always went to Sunday
school and church. My mom took in foster babies right
from birth. They would stay with us until the adoptions
were finalized. Ironically, I learned that I too was
adopted. I never let my mom know of my discovery,
because it didnt matter. God had blessed me with the
greatest mom ever and I was so fortunate and so
loved.
