Abstract

The fluorescentlamp lifetime isvery dependentof thestarup lamp conditions. Thelamp filament
current and temperature during warmup and at steadystate operation are important to extend the life ofa
hotcathode fluorescent lamp, and the preheating circuit is responsible for attending to the startup lamp
requirements. Theusualsolutionforthe preheating circuit used inselfoscillating electronicballastsissimple
andpresents alow cost.However,theperformanceto extend thelamplifetimeisnotthe mosteffective.The
project presents an effective preheating circuit for selfoscillating electronic ballasts as analternativetothe
usualsolution.
