What is Management?

Management is the function that coordinates the efforts of people to

accomplish goals and objectives by using available resources efficiently and
effectively. In management it includes planning, organizing, staffing, leading
or we direct, controlling an organization to accomplish the goal or target. It is
an important strategic approach of the coach or athletic manager, to have a
well-plan and organized sports activity. We must also take into consideration
the traditions and unique culture of the organization by respecting and
preserving its value. A sports manager must also deal with the present:
current needs and challenges of the organization, and lead the future
direction of the organization for the better.
According to Kilian Timoney of Dunbar High School, Organizing a good
meet takes a lot of time and preparation. Many meets that you attend may
have all of the basics needs to run a meet, but they dont strike you as being
a good event to bring your team. Which means, adopting the best practice
management techniques and strategies. Roles must be clear to those who
are in the positions, its responsibilities must be properly disseminated and
given importance, each of them must know their accountabilities for them
what, when and how to report the things that needs to be improve.
In short management must have Respect, Good Manager that
knows how to lead. Just like you are attending to church, many attended
but few really understand. An Efficient management demands fully
understanding of the program itself and belief in the objectives of athletics.
In order to avoid those lapses, everybody must be committed.

Importance of meet management

The type of contest, size of competing units, and the extent of an

athletic programs hould not detract from the importance of management of
athletic competitions. An Effective management sees to it that all athletic
games and events are started on time and as scheduled. It sees to it that
games officials are in their proper uniforms, and when called upon to
officiate, proceed to and from their respective assignments in and orderly
manner.
Meet management may be divided into three phases, namely, first:
the before-games also known as the preparation phase, second the duringgames responsibilities, and the third one is the after-games responsibilities
in my research, a fourth phase must also be added which namely the out-oftown games.
These phases of athletic managements are arrange according to time
sequence, its importance vary according to the size of the meet and the
individual or individuals administering the meet. These should serve as a
checklist of reminders.
The First Phase: the Before games, a well-managed athletic meet is not
the result of coincidence or pure luck. It is the product of advanced careful
planning, checking of all details pertaining to the coming program or meets.
It should be possible to list all items in accordance with their categories and
have them ready well in advance to avoid last-minute rushes. In this phase
the Athletic manager must create a committees to help recognize earlier the
scope of the competition such as rules, officials, budgeting or finance,
committees that is assign to give notices to the members of the competing

units for the date and place of the meet a head of time before the actual
competition.
There are some items needs to consider in preparation of the game, 1)
a list of sports event must be created to identify the participant to the
organized meet 2) date and place of the competition, for the team to know
the whereabouts of their events, 3) facilities needed for the athletes comfort
and safety. 4) list of competing units; so that the competing teams for
solidarity and competitiveness. 5) possible budget; funding the event and
other contingency fund. 6) equipment and materials needed by the athlete in
performing the sports for their safety. 7) type of elimination to be applied
whether it is round robin, ladder-type and pyramid. 8) list of elimination to be
applied, 9) schedule of the games
The Second Phase during-games, the different committees created
during planning will help in administering and managing any sport
competition. Its main objective is to render assistance to the general director
or manager of the tournament. In this phase, the following committee will
function. 1) Technical Committee these are compose of the Officiating
officials, Tournament Managers, 2) Committee on Discipline and Protest
responsible in the manner of the coach during the athletic events or they are
responsible in catering the protest on another team might raise if ever. 3)
Program and Invitation Committee responsible in making appointments to
the dignitary guests 4) Peace and Order Committee responsible in
maintaining the peace and orderliness of the event such as the police and
other civic volunteers 5) Accommodation Committee responsible in checking
the safety and comfort of the dignitary guest down to the athletes and
spectators of the event. 6) Equipment and Facilities Committee they are
responsible in checking the equipment and facilities used by the athletes and
spectators in its safety. 7) Prize and Awards Committee responsible in giving
