My journey from Janardhan to Sinardhan
My tryst with Sinar started over twenty-seven years ago the first time I looked through the Binocular
reflex magnifier of the Sinar 4x5 during a workshop of the same at IIPC workshop in Delhi. It was at
that moment I knew that my life had now acquired the meaning I sought deep within. A science graduate,
an engineering dropout - it was the quest to acquire my very own Sinar that gave me the much-needed
direction to build my future career as a professional photographer.
Shri Wilas Bhende, who conducted the one-day Sinar demo, was my Guru and also the guiding force
behind the first and only Sinar diploma course, in Bombay(1990), to be conducted outside Switzerland.
This was to commemorate Sinars twenty-five year Indian odyssey. On my enquiry, he wrote to me and
asked me to enrol for the Sinar Diploma course in India as I was planning to study the same in
Switzerland. Finally, in 1995, a little less than a decade after I first laid my eyes on the Sinar camera, my
dream came true. Shri Wilas Bhende was the first photographer to get the Sinar to India and I was the
first to get to the state of Andhra Pradesh, with four lenses and all the major accessories. The then
distributor, helped me through this process and I became the only Sinar large format user in the entire
state.
Graduated to the Sinar digital (P3+SB54H+SinarM) in 2004. I still go down memory lane when my fellow
professionals questioned my decision of risking my investments on this versatile camera system, as the
city in not like other metros in India. However, for me, there was no looking back. This tool (read Sinar)
helped me specialize in multiple areas and take up projects that had varied professional requirements. It
has helped me grow as a photographer; year over year, and it's constant updation has just made my choice
clearer.
I am not trying to promote the Sinar brand or the name as it speaks for itself. These are just my
experiences and at the end of this never-ending fascination for creating that perfect picture everytime,
all I have to say is- If you think it, it can be done.
First Solo Show - (Ganga at Haridwar) Water: Energy in Motion
Energy In Motion, born out of the dynamic interplay of light on flowing water, beautifully showcases the
kinetics of motion on this fluid medium. This masterful depiction of the dance of light on water, a fusion
of two energies (Water & Light) highlights the otherwise dormant energy through vivid digital
photographic imagery. Each picture, with its psychedelic overtones, is truly worth a thousand words.
