What You Must DO

Construct staircase in South-West corner or West or South directions in a home.
You can construct external staircase in South-East facing East, South-West facin
g West, North-West facing North and South-West facing South.
Vastu for Staircase suggests that while going up via stairs, one must climb towa
rds West or South; and while descending one should descend towards East or North
. Provide a turn in any direction due to paucity of the land.
Keep the stairs clockwise as far as possible.
Use the area under a stair as store place.
Provide a roof sloping towards East or North at the top of staircase.
Keep the number of steps odd. Make sure that the number of risers when divided b
y 3 leaves 2 as remainder. E.g. 5, 11, 17 etc.
Use light and soothing colors for a Staircase. Avoid red and black color for sta
irs.
Repair broken stairs immediately else it may cause accident and conflict in fami
ly due to mental tension.
What You Must AVOID
The staircase must never be in the North-East side of the home.
If the staircase is in the North-East of the home then there will be financial a
nd business losses; also the head of the family will be in debt.
Avoid stairs in the center of a home. Keep the center of the home free as this i
s the Brahmasthan.
Spiral stairs are not recommended as per Vastu as they cause bad health.
If a staircase if encircling the building then it will lead to calamities.
One must never keep almirah or cash locker under a staircase.
The first step of any stair should never be round or circular.
Stairs in a home should never start or end from/in Kitchen, Pooja/Prayer Room, S
tore Room or Strong Room.
Do not have Pooja Room, toilet or Cash/Strong room under any staircase.
If the space is less and staircase constructed in South-East or North-West then
it may, to some, extent affect health of children in the family.
Avoid circular or round steps as far as possible.
If a staircase is build in the South-West (the best place) of a home, and room i
s available at the end of the stairs, then no one should occupy the room. If som
eone does occupy the room then he will fall sick, will have breathing problems;
blood circulation will become slow and will start suffering from rare diseases.
The steps going to upper floor must never be the same stairs that go to the base
ment or cellar.

What You Must DO

Place platform of the kitchen in East and South-East corner.
Put cooking gas burner or stove in South-East corner of kitchen, make sure that

it is a few inches away from wall.

Provide L shaped platform, next to the kitchen s main platform, near South wall and
use this platform for keeping and operating microwave ovens, mixer/grinder etc.
Use North-East to set up wash-basin or sink in the kitchen.
Use North-East or North side to keep drinking water and utensils for drinking wa
ter.
Keep grain boxes, pulses, various spices, salt etc. in South or West direction.
Have two windows/gaps in East and West walls of kitchen and place an exhaust fan
in any of the windows/gaps.
You can optionally place a dining table in North-West or West side of kitchen.
Keep light weight things in East or North in kitchen.
Build mezzanine floor in West or South of kitchen.
The cook must always face towards East while cooking; this ensures good health o
f family members.
Use yellow, orange, rose, chocolate or red as floor and wall colors of kitchen.
You can place a refrigerator in South-East, South, West or North direction of Ki
tchen. If the refrigerator is in South-West direction then place it a foot away
from wall else it will often get out-of-order.
Give sacred offering to fire of the first thing you prepare in kitchen to make s
ure peace and prosperity.
Clean kitchen, kitchen platform and utensils daily at night before sleeping.
What You Must AVOID
Avoid kitchen directly under or above pooja/prayer room.
Do not have kitchen directly under or above toilets.
Avoid kitchen directly under or above bedroom.
Do not place cooking gas burner or stove directly in front kitchen s entrance door
.
Do not have main door of kitchen in any corners; place it in East, North or West
wall.
A kitchen in North-East causes mental tension among family members and they suff
er great losses. This is a common vastu defect, if in your home

Kitchen in South-West leads to clashes among family members.
A kitchen in North-West direction is acceptable but it leads to increase in mone
tary expenditure.
Most dangerous kitchen is the one placed in North direction; as North is Lord Ku
bera s (the God of Wealth) direction, having kitchen in North will increase expend
iture of family beyond expectations and control.
Never face west while cooking as this leads to severe health problems to the coo
k.
If while cooking
the cook faces south then family has to face monetary losses.
Avoid black color for kitchen wall and flooring.
Avoid keeping refrigerator in North-East direction.
