he Erie School Board took a neutral stance during the prosecution of a former Erie School District employee accused of stealing about $13,000 in audiovisual equipment from the district and a private business.
The neutrality did not extend to the sentencing for the defendant, Robert P. Tirak, 54, who received a standard-range sentence of two years of probation after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor theft charge Thursday.
Two Erie School Board members -- Robert Casillo and Mary Frances Schenley -- asked Erie County Judge Daniel Brabender to give a former Erie School District employee accuse of theft a lenient sentence, though Casillo said he was not speaking in his official capacity.

Dear Judge Brabender,
Tam writing this letter on behalf of Robert Tirak, Jr. As a Directot of the School
for Bob. I have known him for many years and have always appreciated his
Willingness to help his associates, even if t was not within the scope of his job
description. As a coordinator of the PreK Counts preschool atthe Boys & Girls
Club for 14 years, I called on Bob on many occasions to help with maintenance
issues as well as technology problems at the Club. He came willingly, on his
own time, to help and never asked for any payment or special consideration in
retum, He even played Santa Claus for the Preschool Christmas party on several
occasions, Our preschoolers loved him! Again, I am asking that you consider
Mr. Tirak’s overall record with the Erie School District and his dedication to
‘community service.
‘Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
‘Mary ost =)
