Motivational Story
MAKING A DIFFERENCE

The Little Girl

& Starfish

A young girl was walking along a beach where countless starfish had washed up during a recent
storm. She picked up each starfish as she walked up to it and threw it back into the ocean. People
were watching her with amusement. After she had done this several times, an old man approached
her and said, Little girl, why are you doing this? Look at this beach! You can't save all the starfish.
You can't possibly make a difference! After a few moments, she bent down, picked up another
starfish, and hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied,
I made a difference to that one! The old man looked at the girl and thought for a moment about
what she had said. He then picked up a starfish and joined the girl in throwing starfish back into the
sea. Soon others joined, and all the starfish were saved.
Moral of the story: There is no better way to start an impossible mission than to believe that you
can do something to make a difference.

The Wonder Metal

Most widely used non-ferrous metal
with unlimited product possibilities...

Interesting Facts
Aluminium has been termed "The Magic Metal" or The Wonder
Metal". The reason for these accolades lie in the very diverse range
of physical, chemical and mechanical properties enjoyed by the
metal and its alloys in both cast and wrought forms. The
inexpensive method of producing aluminium, discovered by Hall and
Heroult in 1886, changed this metal's role in everyday life.
Before chemists developed inexpensive ways to produce pure
aluminum, it was considered as precious metal. In fact, in 1855, a
bar of pure aluminum metal was displayed at the Paris Exposition
and was placed next to the French crown jewels! Almost
immediately after the exhibition, demand for this magical metal
sky-rocketed. Its shininess combined with its almost ghostly
lightness compared to other metals made it an ideal metal for jewellery.
The first sports car featuring a body made of aluminium was
presented to the general public at the Berlin international motor
show in 1899. Today aluminium is the second most used material
(in %terms) of the total weight of the car. It is used to make
components of the suspension, the chassis, cylinder blocks and
other engine components. It is believed that 1 kg of aluminium can
replace up to 2 kg of steel and cast iron in many areas of application.
The more aluminium is used in the production of a vehicle, the less
the weight of the vehicle is and the less fuel it consumes, thereby
reducing the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
Aluminium is the primary aircraft material, comprising about 80%
of an aircraft's unladen weight. The Wright brothers' first
aeroplane, which flew in 1903, had a four-cylinder, 12 - horsepower
auto engine modified with a 30 - pound aluminium block to reduce
weight. 1st all - aluminium plane was built in the early 1920s.
