Hello friends , I think many of you know me , I am Ruskin bond and I am a famous

Indian writer , I am much known for my role in promoting childrens literature in India
I was born on 19th May 1934 .At the age of 16, I wrote my first novel naming The
Room on the Roof, it was an semi-autobiographical story of the orphaned boy named
Rusty.. In 1956, I wrote Vagrants in the Valley, as a sequel to my first novel, The Room
on the Roof. These two novels were published in one volume later, In 9930s I wrote
many non-fiction writings named as The Best Of Ruskin Bond . My interest in
supernatural fiction led me to write popular titles such as Ghost Stories from the Raj, A
Season of Ghosts, and A Face in the Dark and other Hauntings. Since then I have
written over five hundred short stories, essays and novels, including The Blue
Umbrella, Funny Side Up, A Flight of Pigeons and more than 50 books for children. I
had also published two volumes of my autobiography. I was mainly influenced by
the hill stations at the foothills of the Himalayas, where I spent my childhood. My first
novel, The Room On the Roof, was also partly based on my experiences at Dehradun.
In 2007, a film was made on my popular novel for
children called The Blue Umbrella and I got many awards for writing that novel. I also
got the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize in the year 1957, Sahitya Academy Award in 1992
for my novel Our Trees Still Grow in Dehradun. I was also awarded the Padma Shri in
1999 and Padma Bhushan in 2014. I feel that it doesnt matter how difficult the
situation is if we try hard to achieve success we will definitely get the success as Its
courage, not luck, that takes us through to the end of the road.

To be able to laugh and to be merciful are the only things that make man better than
the beast
The world keeps on changing, but there is always something, somewhere, that remains
the same.
