A multi-genre text set is a selection of books varying in genre, setting, media, reading
level, and so on that correlate to one main literature piece or theme. A multi-genre text set can
include any genre from fiction and/or non-fiction to fantasy and/or poetry. A multi-genre text set
supplies a variety of literature pieces and ideas for classroom use therefore, existing as beneficial
to students and teachers. Another beneficial aspect of a multi-genre text set is the variety of
reading levels presented. Reading levels vary among students and a multi-genre text set allows
each student to comfortably read at their level of reading. A multi-genre text set should be
diversified to engaged students and ensure a variety of cultures in a classroom.
There are a variety of purposes to a multi-genre text set. One purpose is to present
supporting literature pieces based on the theme chosen. Another purpose of using a multi-genre
text set is to present students with a variety of literature pieces at different reading levels. A
multi-genre text set allows students to connect with literature pieces and discuss any thoughts or
ideas with classmates. Naturally, students prefer to read literature pieces interesting to them and a
multi-genre text set provides an opportunity for students to choose what stands out to them. A
purpose of a multi-genre text set that stood out to me is the variety of culture. A multi-genre text
set typically does not confine itself to one specific cultural aspect, instead offers a plethora of
cultural identifications. It is important for students to be culturally aware and a multi-genre text
set allows the opportunity for student learning and creativity.
This multi-genre text set will affect learning by providing a unique opportunity to learn a
variety of information about a specific theme or topic. It is important to comply with student
reading levels to ensure student achievement in reading. A multi-genre text set helps comply with
those reading levels. A multi-genre text set also allows students to reflect on literature pieces and
report out ideas and/or thoughts. Socialization is important for students to have with their peers
Tiffany Tanner
and a multi-genre text set gives students this opportunity. Another way this multi-genre text set
will affect learning is by presenting a diversified selection of literature pieces to students. This
multi-genre text set theme is determination. The goal of this multi-genre text set is to ensure
student learning while providing a varied set of literature pieces.

her back yard. When the giants snoring keeps the town people awake at night, the Princess is
determined to find a way for the giant to get a good nights sleep. The Princess tries giving the
giant warm milk, giving him a stuffed animal to sleep with, and even a new mattress but none of
her ideas seemed to be successful. Finally, the Princess realizes that all the giant needs is a bed
time story. This idea was successful and everybody got a good nights sleep, including the giant.

and the Princess and the giant both lived happy ever after.
Classroom Idea: The activity correlated with this story is for the science curriculum. The
activity is to create a layered foldable on what they believe is needed to make a bean stock grow.
This activity allows students to use their imagination. I will first read The Princess and the Giant
aloud to the class. I will then ask students what they think is needed to grow a bean stock. Next, I
will give students made-up criteria of what is needed to grow a bean stock which is a bean, soil,
water, sunlight, and oxygen. After that, students will be put into groups of four to complete their
layered foldable. The criteria of what it takes to grow a bean stock will be written on the board
for students to see. Once students complete their layered foldable, I will take them up to put on
our class bulletin board. The purpose of this assignment is to allow students to socialize with
their peers, group think, and to be creative.
