SRI RUDRAM
SRI RUDRA PRASHNA
Shri Rudram is aVedic Hymn addressed to
Rudra, an aspect of Lord Shiva. It is right in the
centre of the Taithiriya Samhita of Yajurveda in
the Fourth Kanda. It is also known as sri
Rudraprashna, Satarudriya and Rudropanishad.
The Panchakshara mantra (Om Namah Shivaya)
is in the heart of Srirudram. This is one of the
hymns prescribed for daily chanting according to
the following couplet:

The wise should chant daily the Unpanishad in
his own Vedic shakha, Bhagavadgita, Vishnu
Sahasranama, Srirudram and Purusha Suktam.
Suta Samhita says:

:

Just as by watering the root of a tree its branches

are also nourished, so also by propitiating Rudra
by chanting Srirudram all other deities are
pleased. Therefore by chanting Srirudram alone
one can get everything in this world and also
liberation from this world.
Rudra is the very first Cause, the physician for
this disease of samsara. He ignores the failings of
his devotees and only considers what is good in
them. He is the very Sun whom we see daily
rising. He takes countless forms. Whatever we see
in this world is his form only. Srirudram offers
prostrations to those who are sitting, lying,
sleeping, waking, standing or running and who
are members of assembly, heads of assembly,
carpenters, potters, hunters, fishermen, thieves,
robbers, those who make chariots, those who
drive the chariots, horses, trees and whatever is
moving or non-moving etc. etc since everything is
his His form only. It is believed that wherever this
hymn is chanted regularly there will prevail
peace and prosperity always.
