Scribd Engagement More than Doubles with HTML5,

Company Transitions Tens of Millions of Documents Into
Billions of Web Pages

Forbes Media, Liquid Comics, Workman Publishing and

Publishers Weekly Among New Content Partners to Embrace
HTML5, New Revenue Opportunities

SAN FRANCISCO – May 25, 2010 – Scribd, the world's largest social publishing and
reading site, today announced the full-scale launch and availability of its free and DRM-
free library of written content -- including tens of millions of books, magazines,
newspapers, presentations, research and more -- from Flash to HTML5, the popular new
web development language. The move allows people to consume any written work with
just a web browser, providing a vastly superior reading experience on any device. It also
presents new revenue opportunities for publishers.

To commemorate the milestone and as part of a longer-term content partnership, Forbes

Media will make available its "Vintage Warren: The Best of Forbes on Buffett" special
issue free to Scribd readers first; Liquid Comics, with titles from Guy Ritchie and
Deepak Chopra, among others, will offer hundreds of graphic novels and comics on
Scribd; Workman Publishing will offer the complete job hunter's bible "Can I Wear My
Nose Ring to the Interview" and other full-length titles; and Publishers Weekly will
share special issues and reports, starting immediately with its PW Show Daily
at BookExpo America (BEA). The brands join tens of thousands of other publishers,
media companies, corporations and organizations that are already sharing free and for-
purchase content on the site.

"Publishers benefit from HTML5 tremendously," said Jared Friedman, co-founder and
CTO of Scribd. "The distribution of their content across the social web and mobile
platforms becomes virtually automatic -- no technology barriers between them and their
readers, no need to build native mobile apps, an ability to easily insert multi-media or
advertising into their content. The possibilities are endless."

"Our mission has always been to ensure that the Forbes brand of journalism is available
to all readers across all platforms," said Bruce Upbin, managing editor, Forbes Media.
"Scribd's adoption of HTML5 gives us a great new way to reach more people on the Web
and mobile devices."
Turning Any Document Into a Magazine
During the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in New York City today, Friedman
demonstrated what in-line, branded advertising could look like rendered in HTML5.
Scribd plans to launch an ad revenue-sharing program for select content partners this
summer.

"The future of comic books is digital and partners like Scribd enable us to potentially
reach millions of new readers," said Sharad Devarajan, CEO and co-founder of Liquid
Comics (formerly known as Virgin Comics), whose graphic novels on Scribd will include
Guy Richie's GameKeeper and Deepak Chopra's Beyond. "That's why we're giving a
number of our comics away for free. Not only does HTML5 on Scribd make the books
look amazing, it also allows us to insert innovative video ads between pages. We're very
excited about the partnership."

"We're happy provide special issues of Publishers Weekly and other content for Scribd
readers," said George W. Slowik, Jr., president of PWxyz, LLC. "We anticipate that
Scribd's efficient delivery system and enormous audience will deliver a much greater
impact for our publishing clients."
