EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The world tells us to seek success,

Powers and Money, GOD tells us to
seek Humility, Service and Love.-Pope
Frances

Dear Parishioners,

Changing Lives, One Family at a Time

Augusts PMO - Project of Mercy will be on

Saturday the 20th, fr om 8am to 3pm.
Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical
Christian non-profit organization whose
mission is to eliminate poverty housing in San
Antonio through building decent & affordable
homes in partnership with Gods people in
need. It is not a charity or handout program.
Families are helped to help themselves through
their personal involvement and sweat-equity
put forth in building their home. However,
volunteers are the heart of the organization. It
takes volunteers to help build the homes and
truly make a difference for the families.
Please join us in being a witness to mercy by
working together and accomplishing our
special acts of mercy project. You dont have
to be a professional carpenter or even a handyman! You only have to be willing to help.
There are many parts to building a houseso
we can definitely find one that fits your special
gifts/talents. Volunteers must be at least 14
years old.
Let us rememberit is through serving others;
especially those less fortunate, that Our Lord,
Jesus Christ blesses each of us. When we are
merciful and do unselfish acts of mercy; we let
others see the face of Jesus and feel His
unconditional love.
If you would like to volunteer, please call/text
me @ (210) 845-6695 or email me @
salnsonia@hotmail.com. You can also call the
Parish Office at 654-1643 to volunteer.
We will meet in the front parking lot of SJN
between 7 7:15am; and then all caravan and/
or carpool to the job site at Hope Village, 337
Glendale Ave, San Antonio, TX 78237.
We hope to see many of you on Saturday,
August 20th! God bless you and your families.
Your Brother in Christ,
Salvador Ordorica

If the Lord does not build the house, in vain do its

builders labor. (Psalm 127:1)
I pray that this Scripture passage spurs youjust like it did
for me, to continue laboring joyously in the up-keep and
beautification of our Church (the Lords House) and its
surrounding parish grounds. I believe the time is right for us
to implement some remodeling of our Altar area and Blessed
Sacrament Chapelface lift, if you will; as well as some
much needed remedies to keep the Lords House intact.
With the support and assistance of the Pastoral and Finance
Councils of the parish, we have contracted the services of
Dario Buchelli, a highly recommended architect used by our
archdiocese. Dario was in charge of the recent renovations
of the Assumption Seminary and the Antonian HS chapels.
An Ad Hoc Committee from the parish has been formed to
help me in overseeing, giving me suggestions and guidance
on 3 projects.
1. Church and Chapel Renovations: Encasing the Tabernacle
in the rock wall, replacing the existing carpet, changing
the wooden tops of the altar and ambo, making the area
ADA compliant. In the chapel, were looking at
upgrading the actual Monstrance Repository to a
Eucharistic Tower. One single unit composed of the
present altar as the base; and the space for the
monstrance and tabernacle to be above it, but not on top
of it. It is a very unique concept, which theologically
speaking, is very fitting.
2. Automatic Door Opener for the church: Several
parishioners had expressed through the Pastoral Council,
as well as directly to me the desire to have this type of
door available for the benefit of our beloved elderly and
disabled brothers and sisters. Thanks be to God; we
finally have come to the point of making it a reality.
3. Family Center: Some recent work underneath the Family
Center has revealed some major disrepair. The sewer
and water pipelines have deteriorated greatly over the
course of almost 40 years. It is imperative that we
replace all pipelines underneath the Family Center to
stop leakage and prevent further damage.
We do not yet have the projected cost for Church and Chapel
Renovations project. The estimated cost for Project #1 is
approx. $50,000 and for Project #3 is $45,000.
We will not undergo any kind of capital campaign for these
projects, but I pray that after we present more specifics about
the final projects, many will feel moved to be part of the
building of the Lords house through a more generous use
of our monthly pink envelopes (Special Project and
Maintenance). Let us all rememberIf we take care of the
Lords House, He will take care of ours
I trust you will be very pleased with the improvements.
Peace!
Fr. Octavio Muguerza
Pastor

EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Parish Monthly Outreach Project of Mercy
Our first Parish Monthly Outreach
(PMO) Project of Mercy for the
month of July took place on Saturday
the 9th, at Haven for Hope in
downtown San Antonio.
27
volunteers, to include our very own Pastor, Rev. Octavio Muguerza
humbly participated; unselfishly giving up their personal time, and
utilizing their God-given talents to minister to the needs of the poor
and homeless. Prior to commencing work, we listened intently to
Jackie as she briefed us on the history of Haven for Hope. The
mission of Haven for Hope is to offer a place of hope and new
beginnings. They do this by providing, coordinating and delivering
an efficient system of care for people experiencing homelessness in
Bexar County. We were all so impressed and inspired by all the
outreach projects and assistance Haven for Hope provides to those
in need on a daily basis.
Ten parishioners volunteered to diligently sort and separate donated
clothing items at the Donations Warehouse for distribution to those
in need. The other 17 volunteers carefully prepped; painted
doorframes, and walls of a very long dormitory hallway. Though
none of us were clothing store clerks nor painters-by-trade; we all
gave it our bestserving with loving and compassionate hearts,
and great big smiles on our faces.
After finishing up our days work, we all shared a hearty meal
together, as well as our personal experiences and insights into what
it meant to humbly serve others. Many of us promised to return to
Haven for Hope in the future and humbly serve again.
May God bless this wonderful non-profit organization always!
