RECTORS REFLECTIONS

ear Friends in Christ,

Each Sunday our children are invited to go on a Joyful

Journey. While this program took the place of our

traditional Sunday School, it is not primarily an education program.

The children are worshipping just was the adults are, but at their
own level. Just like our liturgy, their time together each week
follows a set pattern.

Rectors Reflections

WORSHIP/PRAISE: We begin with a simple song, often singing

words of praise to a familiar tune of a nursery rhyme.

On My Honor

JESUS: The children are invited to focus on the presence of our

Lord in their lives during the week by taking a Jesus doll with
them and keeping a journal of their activities together. Their entries
in the journal have included the following:

Jesus and I . . .
. . . sat by the Christmas tree and enjoyed the lights
. . . ate ice cream at McDonalds
. . . learned about snails and mosquito fish
. . . played games together
. . . played cars and painted the walls.

SCRIPTURE: Each week we offer an interactive teaching on the Gospel reading for the day and
then engage in completing puzzles and games that all reinforce the message of the Bible reading.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE: We offer four short prayers for others and for ourselves and close with the
Lords Prayer using our whole body to do so.

SONG: We end our youth worship with a song and returns (somewhat quietly) to re-join the rest of the
congregation.
My thanks to all the leaders who have helped make this new program a success. If you would like to
participate in Joyful Journey and serve on a team once every 4 to 6 weeks, please let me know.
Yours in Christ,

GODS GARDEN

od's Garden usually makes the average

person think of the Garden of Eden, the
first garden created by God for Adam
and Eve. When Jesus wanted to be alone with
God, His Father, he went to the Garden of
Gethsemane to pray.
My dear departed Mother was said to have
had a green thumb. All her houseplants thrived
and bloomed. I remember the beautiful garden
she had in our back yard, although I believe she
knew it was only created with God's help. She
was a very devoted person. Actually, God has His
creative hand in all gardens.
As a child I was much inspired by my mother's
garden, and started my own small garden across
the yard from hers. When I married and moved, I
started a garden. Everywhere I ever lived I have
started a garden and left it behind. I only hope
that those who followed, enjoyed the gardens as
much as I did.
In his poem My Garden Thomas Edward
Brown wrote:
A garden is a lovesome thing, God wrought!
Rose plot, Fringed pool, Fern's grot-

The veriest school of peace: yet the fool

contends that God is not-Not God! In Gardens! When the eve is cool?
Nay, but I have a sign;
'tis very sure God walks in mine.
C. Austin Miles composed the music and
words to In The Garden
I come to the garden alone,
while the dew is still on the roses;
and the voice I hear, falling on my ear,
the Son of God discloses.
And he walks with me and He talks with me,
and He tells me I am His own;
and the joy we share as we tarry there,
none other has ever known.
Friends are the flowers in the garden of life.
Blessings to you all. May the Holy Spirit dwell in
Christ Church.
You are all in my daily prayers.
In His love,

Doris J. Weiler

CHRISTIAN LIVING

ow many of you have ever felt

unappreciated, deserted, unloved,
depressed, or just plain lonely? We must
remember that we are never ever entirely alone.
Our own Guardian Angel is watching over us and
The Holy Spirit is around us and within us. The Jesus
Prayer is a comfort and quite helpful. I have used
it myself many times. We must also remember the
boundless, merciful and unremitting love of God.
God created mankind in his own image. That
means we are all the same and equal. God also
gave us free choice, so that each of us is also
unique. God will use each of His people equally,
to serve Him best according to each ones unique
gift of talent.
In our God given choices, we should retain
our dignity and self-respect and not abuse our
bodies with excesses (like over-eating, drinking
PAGE 3

too much, using drugs, etc.) Most importantly, we

should always live by Gods Laws and the
teachings of Jesus Christ. If we do this, our lifestyle
will become synonymous with Christian Living.
Shouldnt it be our ultimate goal in life, to try to
be a good Christian? Jesus said: lo I am with you
always, even unto the end of the world. (St.
Matthew 28:20)
What a comfort to know that with just a
prayer, help and the love of the Lord are always
near to us. I close with the thoughts of one of my
favorite songs: Youll Never Walk Alone.
You are all always in my prayers.
In His Peace and Love,

Doris J. Weiler

ON MY HONOR.

By: Deacon Debbie

n my honor I will try to serve God and

my country. To help other people at all
times. And to obey the Girl Scout Law.

My fellow Girl Scouts and I said this pledge

the Pledge of Allegiance. Although the
language has changed slightly it still contains
the same message and I am proud of being a
Girl Scout alumni.

Juliette Gordon Low envisioned an

organization that would prepare girls to
meet their world with courage, confidence,
and character.
