#DearMrPresident

Rationale:
Recognizing the vital role of education in nation-building, the Filipino youth
primarily calls for the institution of free public education at levels. No Filipino
student should be deprived of education due to spiraling costs of
matriculation and other school fees, which is brought about by the
intensifying deregulation of education.
The education curriculum should be oriented towards serving the interests of
the Filipino people, unlike the current state under K to 12. The said education
program must be scrapped, along with other anti-student policies including
the No Permit, No Exam Policy and No Late Payment Policy, and ultimately,
laws and regulations such as CHED Memorandum Order No. 3 and the
Education Act of 1982, which legitimize education deregulation in the
country.
At the same time, the democratic rights of Filipino students must be upheld
and safeguarded, including the right to an independent student government,
right to organize, and campus press freedom.
The educational system does not receive much budget from the government.
This resulted to poor facilities. Schools in the rural areas do not receive much
support from the government. This is a clear indication of a governments
failure to provide the basic services needed by its people.
Basic education must instead contribute to the building of a self-reliant
economy, based on genuine agrarian reform and national industrialization.
The State must have strong support for the public education system in terms
of sufficient facilities, resources, a substantial curriculum and empowered
teachers. These are contingent to shaping Filipinos who embrace their
history and culture, and to developing their competencies and skills to build
a strong domestic economy.
In the new prospects of President Rodrigo Duterte on education, he spoke up
on the controversial K-12 program that he was opposed on it because saying
the Department of Education (DepEd) may not have be equipped to
implement it due to limited resources. But now, he had a change of mind in
pursuing the said program. He believes that the change in the educational
curriculum would benefit students.
